Just saw this vid on CNN.com : <script src="http://i.cdn.turner.com/cnn/.element/js/2.0/video/evp/module.js?loc=dom&vid=/video/us/2009/05/03/zakaria.robert.gates.int.part1.cnn" type="text/javascript"></script><noscript>Embedded video from <a href="http://www.cnn.com/video">CNN Video</a></noscript>

@ 2:52 Is that a PIAT? We've seen some eclectic stuff in insurgent hands, but this is really out there IMO. It has a short effective range and must be damn hard to keep supplied compared to the readily-available RPG-7. WTF are they thinking?

UGH, embed fail. The video is "Gates on Iraq, Afghanistan"

I don't think it is. If you google image search for PIAT you'll see that it has a fairly distinctive T-Shaped stock which this Taliban thing doesn't have. Even if they did get hold of some, they were rubbish in 1945 let alone today!

Not a PIAT

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PIAT

but a Recoiless Rifle, and the version leaning aginst the tree looks to be shortened

It isnt a US 57, 75, 90mm version. at the same time it doesnt look like the B-10 I had on the roof of my hootch at RPC either.

It does share some similarities with the PIAT, but it also looks rather more modern. This is from pakistan isn't it, might it be some Khyber-Pass home-made special based on the Spigot Mortar concept that the PIAT is based on?

Chinese Type 78

The Taliban has plenty of Chinese weapons.
