View Full Version : American Imperialism????????????

Its there becuase day after day i see see America EVERYWHERE! on TV on posters on my computer on my cloths on my food etc...i can choose not to use all these things but in this day and age thats basically impossible.

Someone said its globalisation and they're right, while i do agree with some parts of it i do however resent the American dominance and exploitation of it i.e. 3rd world countries.

I believe that that the only reason the US went into Iraq was for the oil and for the foot hold in the middle east, Afghanistan was just something done to keep the people happy. Iraq was first on GWB's list after 9/11 but Collin Powel urged Bush to go to Afghanistan first - this is UNSUBSTANTIATED but i have read a lot into it and thats my opinion.

American imperialism had been happening since 1945 but recetnly they have started running out of excuses for it: Vietnam(communism, which ran thin after awhile), Panama etc. Taking these countries or manipulating them to make sure the US has control over resources.

So

The USG needs something that will keep the US up there, its economy isn't doing as good as they've liked and they want it to be stronger thus keeping Americans rich...or a richer class of Americans.

Well 9/11! that was a bit of a surprise... but what a stroke of luck...sure 2500 people died but hey if its good for the economy its good for the US of A(after a sharp slide mind you but that was predictable). lets go and consolidate our resources...but now we have an excuse..Operation Enduring Freedom the BIGGEST con of all time.

What did the US get out of Iraq: 600 oil wells and 3 oil refineries, huge contruction contracts(mostly US) Australia and the UK were pushed out of any contracts even though they undertook in the war. The US wants to push Aus out of its wheat trade with Iraq as well.

Imperialsim doesn't just stop or start there.

The US owns nealy all TNC's which have a foothold in nealy every westernised country in the world. The multiplyer effect from tourism has decreased for alot of contries because all the profits go back to the US. workers in 3rd world countries are exploited by TNC's for cheap labour, while you pay $30 for a shirt the costs 30cents to make (i havn't even started on the division of labour yet). You guys ever wonder why they have anti globalisation protests?

TV manipulates people into thinking they want things, food, cars, whatever. People are made to think that of you don't have the latest gear you are uncool, effecting their pysche and such, models who are supposed to look good make us have to fit into a template on how to look...ALL US inventions to sell their products.

And the thing is Americans love it, why? becuase their media and government condition them with movies about killing evil arabs and showa about badass black people who are only going to rob you or try to sell you drugs (COPS the show..one example).

Hell what kind of a country has 11,000 firearm related deaths each year when the closest country behined it has like 700 max? A country where its a right to own a firearm, where movies and TV make it ok to shoot someone.

Watch Bowling for Columbine it backs me up 100% in this last two paragraphs.

I don't expect anyone to agree with what i said but you asked why my sig stated that and questioned the logic behined it....there it is.

It isn't enlightenting at all. It appears that Mortimer wishes to paint all Americans with the same broad brush he accuses us of painting the rest of the world with.

What threads did these quotes come from?

So he's pissed we make good movies and fast food. Okay. But why did he have to bring 9/11 into it. Does he want to get hack or get his ass kicked?

nobody ever mentions the billions of dollars America gives out to foreign aid, AIDs research, famine relief, cancer research etc. seems like we exercise our independence (i.e. Iraq) and somebody automatically says, oh God, America is taking over the world again. i'm srry, but if your country isnt out to get what it wants then its not doing its job, because thats what its all about, taking care of #1, yourself. but if your country doesnt have the balls to do that then thats just to bad, you missed the part of the game where the rules were read.

sounds like the kinda person who is mad at America for his own personal woes. He also sounds like the kind of person who is depriving a large city of numerous idiots, ignoramuses and bufoons.

the most enlightening reply ive read is Glax's...

He hit it right on the spot... Because of theg "great" news media the good money, research, assistance and technology that comes out of the US is overshadowed by the left winged "take over the world" stuff that weve been seeing as far back as the Reagan years.

Hey Morty, your Avtar exceeds your quota by 160 pixels horizontally anlone. You may want to fix that before you find a reference in the 'sticky' section.

Also, I find your sig. offensive. History is frought with social inequalities, but to blame the ails of a free market system with charges of American Imperialism only serves to disenfranchize the worldwide capatalist system and it's global-socioeconomic homogenuity. What nation do you think is single largest investor in the United States alone?

To say that the United States is occupying Iraq for oil whithout referencing 'other' greater stated intensions selectively provides you with
inflammatory rhetoric. You certainly do not address the benefit that oil exports provide for the development of an Iraqi economy that will allow them to determine their national autonomy yet alone mention that most Oil producing Middle Eastern nations would find themselves as part of the 'third world' without the market driven oil-exort dependence.

Just some more thoughts.....

I think "infuriating" is the word you were looking for, rather than enlightening. A few comments:

Well 9/11! that was a bit of a surprise... but what a stroke of luck...sure 2500 people died but hey if its good for the economy its good for the US of A(after a sharp slide mind you but that was predictable). lets go and consolidate our resources...but now we have an excuse..Operation Enduring Freedom the BIGGEST con of all time.

First, I believe the death toll was upwards of 3200, not 2500. But what's a few hundred more to you, right? Are you implying that the gov't was willing to sacrifice 3000 innocent lives to boost the economy?!?!?! You've got to be kidding me. If you're calling 9/11 a "stroke of luck", you're looking to get your a** kicked... that's certainly not a threat, just a prediction.

As if your credibility wasn't shot to begin with, you're using this movie (http://www.moorelies.com) as your back-up research...

And finally... you see America everywhere because that's what people want. Why do you think we have more immigrations every year than any other country?? (I'm fairly sure that's correct, if it's not feel free to call me on it.) We don't force people in other countries to buy our clothes, watch our movies, or eat our food... they choose to do it because they want to. If you don't like it, you don't have to do it. And don't tell me it's not possible... I lived overseas for a while. I bought their clothes, ate their food, watched their movies... I didn't *have to* use American products as you say.

That is all.

Speaking of Morty's avatar, I wonder if he knows it's PRO-Bush
...just some thoughts :D

The Secret Service (news - web sites) is studying a pro-Bush cartoon in the Los Angeles Times, showing the president with a gun to his head, as a possible threat, U.S. officials said July 21, 2003. Cartoonist Michael Ramirez said the drawing, which ran in Sunday's paper, was only meant to call attention to the unjust 'political assassination' of Bush over his Iraq (news - web sites) policy. The background of the drawing is a cityscape labeled 'Iraq.' Photo by Michael Ramirez/*******

Personally I think Mortimer is an idiot and deserves to be thrown into a holding cell at Gitmo.
