It was the same for the Gladiator / Apache show. The Gladiator had a Trident/Net combo plus a Sika and other assorted gear meanwhile a Gladiator with a Trident and Spear combo is the lowest of the lowliest gladiators. He doesn't have a sword for backup for a giant friggin helmet because he is a waste of rations untill he earns his keep but those idiots combined it all together.

The show is good for a laugh, pirate vs. knight. Reminds me of an old half life mod, Prirate Vs. knights vs. Vikings.

The four operators were an interesting contrast - the two Spetsnaz were thin and wiry types, and the two GB were certainly well-fed blokes. Don't doubt their overall physical fitness, but they just looked chunky next to the Ruskies.

Hum, I'm pretty sure Rangers have fought the Japanese, the Germans, the Italians, Koreans, Chinese, Vietnamese, Afghans, Iraqis, Somalis, Haitians, Panamanians, and Grenadians. Conscript status is irrelevant in this case. From what I've read, army Spetsnaz commanders actually prefer to pick troops out of physically fit conscripts in their first 6 months of service as opposed to contract soldiers - they are easier to work with, obey without attitude, and learn faster. Ministry of Interior troops is a different story - they seem to call even prison guards "spetsnaz"...

Soviet army was 1/3 made up of officers. In Soviet system officers were career professional soldiers pretty much for "life", filling many of the roles of Western professional NCOs.

The SPETSNAZ have fought Afghani goat herders (1978-1989), Chechens (1994-1996) and Georgians (2008). As far as I can tell the Russian Army and SPETSNAZ units got their a$$ handed to them by the Chechens and defeated the weaker Georgians. Now history will show that 80+ US Green Berets did in a few weeks what the entire might of the Soviet Army with as many SPETSNAZ units attached could not do in 11 years, they ran the Taliban out of Afghanistan.

Just one more comment when talking about the M16 vs AK74 debate. I have carried and used both extensively. The AK is typical of Soviet/Russian doctrine, it is an inaccurate firearm that puts rounds down range without worring about said accuracy. The best that I have witnessed being said is when one of the SF instructors that live near me said that he would issue this challenge. He would let anyone have the AK47/74 of their choice and pit it against his M16. They would put 400 meters between them and he would let the AK user take one shot at him and after they missed him he would put them down with one round from his M16. Followed by If anyone brushed off the effectiveness of the 62gr 5.56mm round why dont they volunteer to get hit by one. It leaves one hell of a wound cavity.

You make some good points- but I think it should be said that the foreigners training with the Green Berets instead of Spetsnaz could also be an indicator of having English be a more common second language, globally- and the fact that many of these countries were allied with the USA at a time when the USSR was an enemy.

Which countries? Russian academies and training centers have no shortage of foreign recruits.


Gold standard is that there is no standard. Every country on "Worthy Special Forces" map has unique capabilities, unique training methods, and unique toys.

Never claimed to be GB, just live next to and am part of the civilian auxillary that helps train the SF students. The USSR lost 11,000+ KIA in Afghanistan, the US so far has lost right now under 5K in two seperate combat zones. The figures speak volumns, Soviet/Russian tactics are ineffective. BTW, unarmed civilian casualties mixed into the opposing KIA numbers dont help your casue there but you have to admit 5K compared to 11K is getting your a$$ handed to you. The GBs do have good stories to tell, because they have had the combat experience to tell them. The same can not be said of SPETSNAZ. They are good at claiming to be the best without the combat proven track record to justify the notion.

Now if 50 GB, SEALs or DELTAs were put on a desert island with 50 SPETSNAZ I feel confident that the individual warfighting capability, small unit tactics, field medic proceedures and superior training would make English the predominent language at the end of the contest.

I have shot both extensively. The AK is not a distance weapon and every example that I have been behind honestly sucked in the accuracy department. The AK is a 200 meter rifle at most and the round and platform are not known for distence nor accuracy. I have shot Russian, German, Bulgarian, Romainian and US made AKs. The American made rifles are the most accurate and best fit and finished with the Bulgarians a very close second. Russian and German were on par with each other and the Romainians were POS. That said I will agree that within parameters of a CQB type engagement that either rifle will perforn as asked, I will give the M4 an edge just due to the fact that the mags are faster/easier to change than the AK. You push a button an the M4 mag drops, it has a wide mag well that feeds it properly into place and then you hit a bolt release button and the rigfleis charged. The AKs that I have shot you have to push the mag release with the thumb while rotating the mag forward, drop the mag, hook the mag lug onto the front of the reciever and pull back and up, then manually pull the bolt to cycle a new round. Anyway that you cut it, it is a slower process andin actual combat speed is life.
As for the assertion that US special forces would be defeated by the UK, France or the Swiss SPEC-OPS, please site your proof or sources. Also please site a credible source for the cover up that you are expousing. How it is being presented is opinion and opinion has no bearing on actual capability. As I asserted earlier, the US Special Forces are combat proven in a wide venue of combat arenas, the SPETSNAZ are not.
