Young Liberals' racy recruitment bid 'disappointing'

The former Federal *** Discrimination Commissioner Pru Goward says she is disappointed that photos of scantily clad Young Liberal women have been posted on a website in a bid to encourage more men to join the organisation.

A former head of Liberal Students' Federation Tim Andrews has posted the photos on his blog.

The site shows pictures of several women who belong to Liberal Clubs at universities across the country.

Some are wearing bikinis, one is in suspenders and another is lying on a bed.

On the site Tim Andrews outlines the 'Babe Theory of Politics', which he says essentially means where there are hot babes, an exponential number of men will show up.

Ms Goward, now a New South Wales MP, says it is the wrong way to go about recruiting people to the Liberal Party.

"I'm disappointed that he's misjudged the importance of a political party like ours that for so long has defended the dignity of men and women," she said.

"We do need to recruit young people...and I commend Tim for having a go, but I think that we have to remember that people join political parties because of the facts, not the figures."

The site has now been password protected.

I have noticed that your average liberal(in the american sense, I DID read the first posts...) woman does tend to look alot more, shall we say, unkempt when compared to your average conservative woman, however most women dont seem to give a damn about politics it seems.

My theory on why the ugliness is a trend among liberal hippy types is

Liberals aren't very happy people, but no ****, right? Constant anger, stress, etc affect appearance. The Bush administration probably didn't do much for them.

2: More likely to abuse drugs.

OK you Yanks, here in Australia, the Liberal Party (that's with a capital "L") are the conservatives. Why did they call their party that? **** if I know, it sounds silly but maybe the people who created the party didn't exactly know what the word meant. The women posing on the pics look anything but conservative though.

Pig Iron Bob did know what the word meant when he invented the Liberals. The US meaning of the word liberal is exactly that: a US meaning. Don't think the twain have ever met.
