Today Walla! became the first company in the world to provide a free 1GB e-mail service that is not in beta stages. The e-mail includes free
anti-virus and anti-spam services and has a capacity of 1GB.
The company has started to upgrade all the mail boxes of it one million customers, the upgrade process will end in few days.

The service will support many languages and it includes free anti-spam and anti-virus. Every customer will be able to send up to 30mb of audio, video and pictures to other Walla! customers or to send up to 10mb to a customer from another mail company.

What's the catch? All your e-mails will be checked by a computer that will search for keywords (for exmaple: car), if one of the words match a category of a commercial, it will send you the commercial. In the near future the company will also offer customers to pay for a commercial free service.

That means that I have around 5GB of mail boxes :)

Yeah, the concept does seem identical. The only difference is that Walla is, apparantly available to all, as opposed to gmail, wqhich is only available to ppl with big ****s (myself included)

It is, but Gmail is in beta tests, while this service already finished the beta testing stage.

Gmail will be around as long as google is around. Google will vanish when the internet collapses on itself. :| I'm not joking. Who the hell knows when a small Israeli internet web service will last? And who the hell would want email service from a small country with limited international bandwidth when you can go through Akamai (which is used by Google), which is the largest and most reliable internet network?

And I can even bet that Gmail's interface is 100x better.

Gmail in beta? Come on... Who doesn't have an account? I've probably given over 100 invites since I was invited by a Google employee three months ago.

As said, they are not the first.
Walla! are selling them selfs as "the first 1gb mail box" in Israel - thinking nobody knows about Gmail or spymac :cantbeli:

They are a bunch of Israeli lefties - and in Israel being a lefti is not just a political issue, its some sort of a mental condition where your head is stuck up your butt.

Any way, their website is sooooo slooooowwwwww you better wait for Gmail for that matter.

(now realy, who doesn't have a gmail account? I stopped inviting people a long time ago...)

You'll have a red link saying "Invite a friend to join Gmail!"
it takes a few days before you have this option enabled - and its allways limited for 3-6 invitations, maybe more if you invite more...
