I thought this would be a better place than any to ask this question.

My father was looking at a picture of a 3d model of an M-16A4 that's being modeled for Operation Flashpoint. He points at the stock and goes, "What's that compartment for on the end of the stock?"

I looked over at him with my best military-wish-I-knew-it-all-face and said, "Simple... it's....," then I remembered I have no idea what it is. "Oh, um, yeah, I don't know."

So what is that compartment for? I've seen it on many other guns too. My friend guessed it could store a compact gun cleaning kit. Sounds good to me. Your comments?

When in doubt, consult the facts...
