As explained above, this was a bit of a misleading one. The guy is a Royal Marine, and the pic was taken on the Al-Faw peninsula last year. The true story was eventually told in the guys local paper, and it was all very embarrassing. His helmet was apparently hit by shrapnel whilst it was lying in the open during some ordnance clearing operations. A journalist saw him goofing around with the helmet, took the picture, put 2 and 2 together and made 5. The Marine was billed in the UK tabloids as the luckiest man alive - they even printed his usual choice of lottery numbers!! Some time later the truth came out - but the Marine hadn't actually made the story up himself, it was the journalist. Now there's a surprise!

If I remember rightly the helmet wasn't even hit by shrapnel, they were using it as a target on a makeshift range.
