How was the pilot?

he was lucky those fuel tanks didn't set off. some pilots survive with an inch of stupidity. i'd probably would have ditched the plane when it would have been in a safe place (most likely into a large body of water or somewhere flat and empty)...

Could those missiles have exploded under the friction too?

If he knew his landing gear wouldn't go downhe would have jettisoned the missiles and most likely the fuel tanks. Lucky SOB

His landing gear may have been damaged, and usually that would mean the hydraulic system to the weaponry would be gone too...(most likely)

Common sense would tell me the pilot in this case knew about a landing gear problem and elected to gear up the airplane and leave the drop tanks on. Most likely the drop tanks were empty, the aircrafts on board fuel tanks were as low as possible, and the drop tanks provided support outboard of where the landing gear would be positioned on a normal landing if they had been available.
Or the guy just fvcked up.

Defected? From Pakistan to Pakistan? :D Judging by the emblem on the side of the intake,
it's an Pakistan Air Force A-5C, and it's probably just a malfunctioned landing gear. Besides
the PRC, who is being the primary manufacturer of Q-5(export designation A-5), countries
such as Bangladesh, Pakistan and the North Korea are also using the A-5 fighter/bomber.

since when does hydraulics have anything to do with releasing ordinance?
