TULSA, Oklahoma (AP) -- Six puppies were killed, apparently by fireworks placed in their mouths, shortly after teenage boys were seen carrying Roman candles in a north Tulsa neighborhood.

Animal control officers said they were following leads Tuesday but had no suspects in Sunday night's attacks, during which one person told police they heard a puppy yelp.

An older dog, a 41/2-month-old black Labrador mix, suffered burns on her muzzle and hindquarters from apparently being used as a moving target for fireworks.

The Tulsa Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was caring for the injured dog and for the puppies' mother, a 11/2-year-old black-and-tan heeler mix that was not harmed.

The injured dog had begun to eat and was expected to survive, said Laurie Myers, executive director of the Tulsa SPCA.

The SPCA believes the puppies died from fireworks that exploded in their mouths.

A woman, Tonya Curry, 27, found all the dogs Monday among the remains of fireworks inside a vacant house and took the two survivors to the SPCA. When an animal control officer arrived later, the dead puppies were gone.

"Somebody probably went to clean up their mess so they wouldn't get in trouble," Officer Charity Curtis said.

The SPCA has raised about $1,000 and other organizations were undertaking similar efforts to reward people who provide information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible, officials said.

This supports my assertion that these (primarily very poor) unsupervised & unparented children are capable of anything. They simply have no notion of traditional "right & wrong" or empathy for others. They must be rounded up, ground into a fine paste, and processed into a wafer like snack, suitable for use on crackers. I propose that it be called something innocuous like, oh I don't know.."moylent green" or "soyish blue"..something like that.

I rationalize our disgust at this incident because of this: puppies are completely defenseless, and they depend on us humans to take care of them (for the most part). These assholes betrayed that trust, and it's just really sad. :( :( :(

Soldiers sacked for kitten torture

CANBERRA, Australia (*******) -- Six Australian soldiers found guilty of torturing and killing a litter of kittens will be kicked out of the defence force, the army says.

An army statement said the behaviour of the six servicemen, based in Townsville on Australia's east coast, was not consistent with the values of the army and well below expected standards.

"They have brought shame and discredit to the Australian army," said the statement.

A magistrate court earlier this year heard that the soldiers tortured the litter of three-week-old stray kittens during a drinking session on Easter Saturday at the residential section of their barracks, local media reported.

The court heard that one kitten was dragged on a rope behind a motorcycle and then crushed, while three others were set on fire.

The incident sparked calls for the soldiers' to be sacked.

The army said each soldier's case had been looked at individually and legal advice sought before making the decision to discharge them.

They can appeal against the decision.

I really do fear for the future of humanity when intolerable acts like these are perpatrated by youngsters, our future. It makes me sick that people could do this. How utterly ****ING demented are these people ? Who raised them, and what exactly were the children brought up to believe in ? The parents need a lesson aswell. Irresponsible parenting is where the problem lies for kids like them.
