Hi all

I'd like to share some thoughts on first generation Molle vest issued by US army. This thread will show four different setups of that vest. Pls dont pay attention on my cloths, pouch colors, etc. all I want is to share the idea.

First setup: standard vest

Second setup: chest rig
Instruction: belt is the foundation for the chest rig. the back straps become shoulder straps. you need two additional webbing belts and two larger fastex buckles to fix the chest rig over you back as shown in the picture.

Here I used straps from standard Australian webbing harness. They are removable. The same harness is later used for webbing setup.

Third setup: backpack
Instructions: just take the original chest parts and attach them in such a way that they are stretched over your back. You could create some additional

Of course it needs larger pouches to function as a backpack, but you get the idea.

Fourth setup: belt webbing
Instructions: i used webbing harness of ADF for this setup cos it attaches through loops instead with hooks like US one. UK webbing harness does the job too.

I've also attached a cheapo hydration system and for demo purposes I fastened a tarp on the belt. The latter has been achieved with large back straps on the belt and couple of fastex buckles. The only drawback in my case, the mag pouches are a bit too far on the side. Could be closer to the front but I am a fairly big guy! So it should be fine for an average person.

I still havent tested it but how could i when I live in down under...no army rifles no airsoft!

Feedback welcome.

Rear. Your rear is not rare, nor is it special in anyway.

honestly, thats still the MOLLE 2 system....MOLLE 1, i dont remember what it looks like but its slightly different....and before that, you had the SPEAR/ELCS test stuff (basically a LBV with diagonal MOLLE webbing, kind of like the CMVS but diagonal webbing instead of horizontal) anyways...interesting set ups! hm. how hard is it to reach to the back pouches in the backpack system?

Didnt one of them have a plastic buttpack/ruck attachment?
We tested one of them and they sucked.

We tested one of them and they sucked. Original MOLLE had a Plastic Ball and Socket attachment for Rucks, it sucked.

MOLLE 1 FLC is what he has in the Pictures. I had that in 2001 at West Point. Biggest problem we had was no instructions on how to set it up. 1 Sergeant cut the adjuster tabs off (for the belt) and then re sewed them when he realized afterwards how to adjust it. Plus it had those asinine adjuster buckles to the belt for the front panels. and the adjustable drag handle which was a POS.

In the pictures you'll notice the 3rd chest strap, ala LBV, that Gen 2 got rid of.

There's no Airsoft in Australia? Damn EU meddling

sorry, a friend of mine corrected me, I thought the plastic socket/ball system was the 1, but he informed me that the MOLLE 1 has the removable waist belts

Nope, and restricted paintball in many states, nothing in Tasmania. Thats what happens when you have the worlds second worst massacre in your state.

Well down under is pretty lame in regards to weapons and airsoft.
Before the massacre in Tasmania you could have a semi auto but after that tragedy happened no more. Airsoft is totally banned, the weapons just look too realistic. Paintball is allowed but there are strict regulations around it and as mentioned before they are different from state to state. I'll give you an example of how strict the laws are around here: they recently banned sales of Tippmann A5 cos is looks too similar to a HK MP5!!!!!

Additionally, all of gear and equipment is very expensive here. And if we want to buy it from US, the shipping is rip off. Therefore we have to improvise, as I've demonstrated in pictures.

As for pouches, they are not original US army (obviously), but most of them are good quality and I found them either on ebay US or locally in down under.
The three mag pouches were around 10 AUD (the only cheap piece of equip. so far), which is less than 10 USD and I got them from an surplus store in Perth. But I've seen same ones on ebay US or sportsmansguide.com.

What's up with the blue pouches?

CamoDeafie

blue-green pouches remind me of the newer foliage green-gray stuff made for ALICE, in 1997-2000, but I've never seen those size pouches in US equipment....might have overlooked them, but I think they're ADF?
