Any day the Rev. Al Sharpton (http://www.nydailynews.com/topics/Al+Sharpton) can walk out of a room full of cops without getting handcuffed is a good one, he quipped after talking to the NYPD (http://www.nydailynews.com/topics/New+York+City+Police+Department)'s newest recruits on Thursday.
Sharpton was one of half a dozen police critics asked to speak to the latest class of 262 new officers, due to graduate and hit the streets July 2.
"To me, it's always successful to be in a room full of police and not leave with my hands in cuffs," Sharpton said after meeting the class at Harlem (http://www.nydailynews.com/topics/Harlem)'s historic Apollo Theater (http://www.nydailynews.com/topics/Apollo+Theater).
The four days of multicultural training - started after the death of an unarmed black man in Queens (http://www.nydailynews.com/topics/Queens+County), Sean Bell (http://www.nydailynews.com/topics/Sean+Bell) - were designed to give recruits more exposure to the racially diverse city and a frank assessment about relations between those communities and the cops.
While holding police accountable for improving interactions with minorities, Sharpton said black and Latino communities had to acknowledge endorsing a "Wild, Wild West culture" that glamorized crime.
"We have to get the thuggery out of the community," Sharpton said.

"we have to get thuggery out of the community"

Isn't that what the police are doing?

Why the black community still looks up to this ****bag amazes me.

Sharpton is scum, I can't imagine not wanting to drop kick him if ever face to face.

I wonder if any of the cops asked him about Tawana Brawley.

If I were one of those cops, I'd be pissed as hell to have that piece of sh!t being invited to speak to me.

I love Al Sharpton.
I can't help it: He's a caricature of a stereotype of a cliche and yet he gets his agenda across and makes the news.
How he's made it this far and still captures the media's eye is beyond me.

I think that the black community would disagree with your assesment of his "leadership". Apart from the NYC fools, and God knows that city has more than its quota of them, black americans ignore the self-appointed "Revurahnd" Al Sharpton.

NOW THE PRESS THINK OF HIM AS A MESSIAH.

Diversity ala Sharpton; "There's black people, there's lighter black people, there's darker black people... then there's white folk who oppress black people. End of lesson."

Does anyone take him seriously? Why does he continue to get press?

He'll do anything for press. He was just out here in Phoenix, Arizona protesting efforts by Sheriff Joe Arpaio (Which he couldn't even ****ounce correctly) to crack down on illegal immigrants. During a speech he then said it was wrong for the illegals to be taking jobs in the US and the government should fight companies that hire them which completely contradicted his stated reason for being here. He's an obsolete fool.

NYPD cops are pissed at such things but they are effectively de-balled by the city to have any voice or say anymore. I think Dr. Al should get a fulltime position at the academy teaching community relations to the ever more growing minority cadets. :)

Al Sharpton teaching diversity is about retarded as a football bat.

The same way our current politicos get and stay into office. I look at the White House, the top in the Senate and the top in the House and I keep asking myself what happened to the first and second stringers? Why is it that we keep appointing and adulating those who should be sitting on the bench?

F$cking perplexing and troubling all at the same time. Or maybe, most of us Americans are just that ill informed and complacent. That would explain it.

Qft. That was the first thing that came to mind. What's he gonna do? Teach them how to call in false, racially motivated attacks?

I've had to sit through some crappy workshops in my day, but this one must have been gut-churning for those guys.
