To me, this is amazing. New mission-planning laptop software for infantry allows “game-planning” for patrols, missions. It also allows real-time reporting of intelligence information, enemy positions, cultural feature changes, from each patrol onto the game-map. Incredible.

“...the Department of Defense has finally developed mission planning software that is easy to use, does what needs to be done, and fits on a laptop computer (http://www.strategypage.com/htmw/htinf/articles/20090624.aspx##). RealWorld combines digital maps and 3-D gaming technology with military procedures and equipment specifications to produce a program that enables commanders, and troops, to quickly put together a simulation of a mission...</SPAN>
“...it provides troops with maps of their area, but with icons indicating previous incidents (good and bad) and reports of enemy activity in general. The maps are updated by the users, like a Wiki, and by intelligence troops, so that the maps tend to show what is out there now, including recent construction or battle damage. But it's second use is equally important. TIGR gives troops, especially patrol leaders, an easy way to report what they saw on their missions. It's these reports that create a clearer picture of what the enemy is up to, and what friendly troops have been doing as well...”

Could it be adapted for Land Warrior is my question? If so we continue to make some amazing strides...if not, still an awesome tool.

Bohemia Interactive sell a light version known as ARMA / ARMA 2 ^^
I hope for your training and your men that the VBS version of the IA is better than ARMA's one.

Well, to my mind this tool, even if it is somewhat flawed, beats the heck out of sand tables, paper 1:50,000 maps that are 15 years old, and FLAR and SLR data received by single-sideband radio with cryptic coordinates like in Vietnam.
The idea of having a spot on, up-to-date, "Wiki" edited computer generated three-D map to plan with, much less use and update in real time during the operation or patrol, is revolutionary. If this is half of what is advertised, it will increase the effectiveness and lethality of every patrol and infantry mission exponentially.
The result could well be an infantryman's battlefield revolution on the par with smart bombing. I wish I could get a look at this. It could make the US infantry light years ahead of their opponents, as well as drastically skew the casualty ratio further in our favor. As an ex-airborne infantry SF troop, I'm all for it...
Thinking further... this could be a major force multiplyer in insurgent or assymetric warfare. The US use of "all-in" commitment of force in Vietnam was a harbringer. Thta was simply to use all your forces in the initial sweep, none in reserve. Then when the enemy was found, move the sweeping forces that are unengaged rapidly to the center of gravity of the battlefield by helocopter.
With this new tool being continuously updated by every little partrol, scout aircraft, outpost, jeep-borne pathfinders, etc., the economy of force and the "piling on" whenever an enemy is pinpointed could be overwhelming.

tigr and vbs2, not the same. tigr is real world, and vbs2 is training

In addition to everything that Jacknola has said, this will greatly increase the effectiveness of the ripping process for incoming units. Not only can the existing units show the incoming units the neighborhoods, cultures, people of significance, significant acts and the like, but it'll all be easily accessible to the new unit when planning missions soon after the old unit leaves. That is if I'm reading the software's capabilities correctly.

This has existed at the BN level and higher for quite some time now. There are various systems, TIGR, CPOF, ect. What they are talking about is a more videogame-esqe tool for Company and Platoon sized units.

VBS and ArmA arent the same thing...
arma might look prettier but vbs has alot more functionality and goodies in it.
arma community was enraged why all the fancy stuff vbs2 has did make it into arma.
now with arma2 there sure is vbs2.5 or vbs3 at the horizon.
