I'm just curious -- why do you visit the site? The majority of my email is from AirSoft players and I was wondering if that was the primary audience.
Whatever your reason for visiting, I appreciate everyone's input, particularly when posted here on the forums for all to see.

Although I play airsoft, I have become more of a gear collector than anything else.
And I do like to build airsoft replicas of weapons currently in use, if the parts are available.

for me, it's that I attempted to be in the military, but couldn't because of asthma. so I do as much military type stuff as I can through video games and stuff like this.

I started out playing Airsoft and after a while I got interested in Gear. I saw Black Hawk Down and wanted to know what the deltas wear. So I searched the internet and found this site. That's why I am here.

well i was a relatively naive 18 year old at the time and had been doing and teaching martial arts for a few years. I went for the toughest branch I knew of, the marines. this was shortly after desert storm and since stormin' norman hardly touched the special forces during that war, they were pretty unheard of for the average joe. I called the marines over the phone and got all the way through their mini-interview when the guy said "ok, everything sounds great and it sounds like the marines are going to be right for you, just have to ask you a couple more quick questions on the paper here and we're done. Do you have any chronic illnesses such as diabetes or athsma?" my heart sank... i mentioned yes and that was the end of it.. blah... thinking back to it now of course, i should have joined the navy for the seals or something like that as the marines just have the recon set and the other branches are used more at this point. what's funny is that a friend joined the marines a couple years later and he lost 80 pounds in the 3 months of basic training that he went through... i had never seen him that skinny.. i just always through he was a big guy. smile.gif

I have always been interested in the military, primarily special ops. Medical reasons kept me out as well, so like a lot of other guys, airsoft has been a second best for me.
However, unlike a lot of airsoft players I've always been interested in realism and strive to portray something as accurately as possible. That is not to say there is anything wrong with the alternatives, they are just not what I enjoy about the game.
About half my family has served and my father was always an avid shooter, and brought me up as such. I guess shooting AR-15's and 1911's as a kid, and getting to shoot a lot of full auto stuff as a teenager one thing just led to another.
I, like a lot of other guys here it seems, have really gotten into gear collecting again ( as a teenager I got all my dad's gear since he was enlisted, and had several buddies in SF that gave me some cool gear as well) and your site has really been a help to see what the "real" operators are using.
I know different things work for different people, but if our spec ops guy are using it, it is definately worth trying out! Your website has really opened a door for that which really didn't exist on any large scale before.
Keep it up!!
I'm here 'cause im interested in military special forces (surprise). I was a conscript in Sweden (yeah i'm swede) as a parachuteranger. The time you sign for is 15 month.
We had a captain that completed the ranger school in US as number one in the course and he had many interesting stories to tell. Some of my old buddies from the military service is now in Afghanistan.

I served in the 4th BN / 325th AIR, 82nd Airborne Division, HHC, 3rd BN, 75th Ranger Regiment, 5th BN / 20th Inf. 2nd Infantry Division, and two Long Range Recon Units (Airborne) - 425th LRSU and the 143rd LRSU.
I'm am a regular at AR15.com (user name 82ndAbn) and followed a link to this site from a picture posted there (Afghanistan Album).
The "swede" who claims his buddy was honor grad at the U.S. Army Ranger School is full of BS up to his ears. All honor grads, since the 1950s, have been U.S. servicemen. He may have been the top Foreign graduate out of his class (out of maybe 4-6 foreign students).
So don't be misled by someone telling you that an out-of-country student fared better at the Army's Ranger course than the other 300+ AMERICAN students (of which are the top soldiers from their respective units).
That's just my $0.02 worth.

Yea, you were at the 82d. We can tell. Relax bro, cut the poor swedish guy some slack. I mean, how much do you know about their schools?
I'm not talking bull****. This is fact that has been posted in various newspapers in Sweden. The gentlemen graduated as #1 i his class. Maybe it was #1 of the foreigners in his class. That I don't know.
But I can tell you this: In Sweden we have a conscript army. That means that every male that has the fysical capability to join the military service is forced to do so. If we send send an parachuteranger to rangerschool it isn't any regular conscript soldier. It is the best trained gay we send. And in my opinion very capable.
That's just my 0.02 kronors worth.

I went to school with a captain from Poland who in my opinion smoked everyone in the course, unfortunately he did not get honor grad. I later saw him at SFQC graduation, so I can believe a foreign student could excel at any of our schools. For future refernece, send your best "guys". Your post may be taken in the wrong context.

I've always been a bit of a military enthusiast and had I come from a family that looked at the serving in the military as a viable option in life maybe I probably would find myself there today. But that's not the case, so I'm just another weekend wannabe warrior who dabbles in airsoft and keeps a close tab on the goings-on of the military just for some bizarre person interest.
I also visit this site and others to look at pictures that you just won't see on the nightly news or some other TV program. I think it's a real loss that (in the US at least) the ability for journalists and reporters to get very close to the action and even harder for them to get any pictures they take past the DOD censors. Too much of the stuff we see on tv is sanitized for the viewing public for a bunch of reasons, few of them I actually think are valid. And so I frequent sites like these hoping that I will get to scope out something that hasn't been approved by 2235 PR guys, desk jockies, and yes-men before it got to my eyes.

Hi 'guest',
in May 1978 First Lieutenant Carsten Morch of the Danish Jaegerkorpset completed the Ranger Course as Distinguished Honor Graduate. At the same course another Dane finished as 3rd.
At one point the Jaegerkorpset stopped to send people to Ranger School as the course were considered irrelevant.
At age 19 I served as a conscript in the Mechanized Infantry in an Armoured Batallion. The reason for me being here is purely (rather bizarre I agree) to satisfie my inner theoretical military geek ;)

Well, I can say that i come here as a ready reference for 1/6th scale (GI JOE scale) Modern Figures. I know, not nearly as MANLY as Airsoft, but a figure is about $40 whereas a Airsoft gun (other than a pistol) is in the $100 range. A cheaper alternative by far..
I served w/ the 110th MI btn LRSD in the 10th MTN div, also w/ A co. 1st Btn. 22 Inf. Rgt. before they went to The 4th ID .. I was an 11b1p (Parachute Qualified). 35 jumps before I transferred to a "Leg "unit. Got out in '94. Both times we were in a conflict( the US i mean) the 10th was on Deployment Readiness Force 1(DRF1) and we never got the green light.( Panama, and Desert Storm.). Then Just when I'm getting out, My Btn gets sent to Somolia. Then not too long after that I see them getting off of BlackHawks in the Carribean.Quite the nutbuster. Train like an animal for 4 years and never get to go to the Olympics! Not a High-Speed
Millitary Career ,but i served proudly and am still proud of the current crop of Soldiers, Sailors, Marines and Airmen (Coasties too!).

I've been into military and stuff since i was 10, back in the days the internet was'nt even e rummor (at least at our side of the ocean).
I went to the army at 19, and because of asthma got rejected from combat. Ended up in MP, where i was part of a group that started the MP recon unit back in 95 - so eventualy i did get to be combat. woot
Today i do reserve duty (30 days a year), and one of the moderators of a leading military forum, popular especially among pre-army teenagers.
In case i did'nt mention before - i'm from israel.
Chris
01-05-2003, 10:55 AM
on tv it looks like the army in israel has a lot of work to do. Maybe not the #1 job there, or is it?
Sirpad
01-06-2003, 09:02 AM
The army service in israel is mandatory. Once you're out of high school, and hit 18 - you're drafted.
to put some order into the draft system, drafts are done throughout the year. Usualy each draft takes few days, and is for specific units/corps.
Most of the army corps gets draftees 3-4 times a year, except SF and AF crews which draft 1-2 times a year. Some even less.
As for the job: hell, man - we are fighting for our lives here. Bombs go off in the big cities almost every week (lately it was calm). Even if you don't take part in such a thing (as a victim), the entire population is terrorised.
The IDF is pretty much the only thing that stands between what we have now and an utter chaos and destruction.
Personally, i think the palestinians deserve their own country - but first they must show some sort of minimal control over the terrorist factions and the street gangs (many times they are related to each other). Once that reasonable demand is achieved - they can take the entire west bank (like if i care...).
I just finished a 15-days active reserve duty in the west bank - and that was'nt too much fun. I really hope whoever wins the comming elections would do SOMETHING to get this insanity over with. Can you imagine quitting work/studying/life and go do army for a month? Sure - it's fun when you're 18 and all pumped up on adrenaline - but when you hit 30 and have a family and buisness to run, it gets a totally different flavour...
Chris

I'm just here because I think the military is interesting. I'm not going to join myself, for several reasons, one of which being I'm medically unfit (a couple chronic medical conditions). However, I don't think that you have want to join the military in order to be interested in it. I'm also interested in medicine and adore the TV show ER, but I'm not going to go to medical school myself. That's the same sort of relationship I have with the military.
And I have massive respect for people like Sirpad, Golani, and others who put it all on the line to protect us civilians from terrorism, whether it be in Israel, the United States, or elsewhere. Thank you.

I personally cannot afford airsoft guns due to other financial responsibilities; however, I have always been fascinated with the US military since my younger years. Over the years I have read scores of military non-fiction which just fueled my interest in the military. As for this site, I think it all started with simply looking for a cool backround. I collect interesting military pictures off of the newsgroups (back in the eighties, I used to collect magazine photos of operators and such), and recently I stumbled upon this fantastic site. I came for the pictures, I stayed because much of the discussion is interesting and devoid of much of the cliquishness(sp) you find on other forums. :)
I like to write and joining these discussions gives me a chance to stretch those skills. Also it gives me a chance to work out the kinks (with almost instant feedback) in some of the ideas I am trying to learn and develope for my teaching. I belive the theories are sound, sometimes articulating them without sounding like a loon is a challenge. I enjoy many of the different points of view found here, although I wish we could avoid childish pisssing contests (yes, I have participated in those).
Finally, I came to realize that there are a lot of young people here, and it is important for those of us who are a bit more experienced in these areas represent ourselves and our peers to them. p-)

I'm here mostly because I like military equipment.
Preferably strange and odd military equipment.
I do not like the american army thou. Shure, some of it's equipment is rather handy, but most of their weapons sucks. Armalite has'nt done a thing right when constructing any of their infantry weapons.
I'm a airsofter too, but I don't like 1337-ops kinda thingys when I play, so I got a standard issue german infantry equipment, nothing fancy at all.

Well to begin with, we (that's in actual US military personnel and not airsofters who DRESS UP & PLAY SOLDIER WITH OVERPRICED TOYS) use weapons produced by a variety of companies (including the Swedes). Some of them include - Colt, H&K, Sig Suar, Baretta, Carl Gustov, Remington, FN Herstal and KAC.
The reason we use these weapons is because they have been proven to work in COMBAT. Apparently a lot of other countries believe in the reliability of US weapons also. Almost every time you see a unit that is given a choice in weapons they tend to go American in a big way (unless they are one of the countries that fell under the influence of the former Soviet Union). HK, and FN come in a close second.
Also last time I checked the AK-5 was a knock off of one of the Belgian FN series of 5.56mm rifles, and when it came time to select a grenade launcher for the weapon, what do you think the Swedes choose, an AMERICAN M-203. The horror. The horror.
Walle, I know a couple of guys that have served in the Swedish military (Air Base Rangers, and the other was in a Mechanized Infantry unit), and you are really giving them a bad name. So until you actually slap on a real uniform and serve even a single day in ANYONE's military, I'd advise against you bad mouthing any other countries military. Just shut up, sit back and enjoy the nice photos, and hopefully you will actual learn a little something along the way.

Came here looking for some reference pictures on contemporary US military equipment. I build dioramas in 1/35 scale, both WWII and modern. Lots of nice pics here but if I can make a complaint, they are often too small for reference purposes.
Served in a mechanized infantry unit (SSS 8.e komp/85plut). Was considering a tour to kosovo but plans changed. Guess I have an interest in all things military although I wouldn't describe myself as a military enthusiast (that sounds too much like a person who thinks war is "fun" or "cool").
Also I'm enjoying reading the threads on this forum, some for their insights and some for their ignorance...
