I was watching "Inside: Marine One" on National Geographic Channel the other night. They was showing some of the helicopter pilots training with a Marine unit. They was doing the fast rope from the helicopter.

Now, the Marines was wearing Mich 2000 and OTV II and I wonder wich unit it was. I'm really sorry that I don't have any pictures available and I understand how much easier it would make the ID.

If any of you know the documentary or knows wich unit it may be, I am truly thankful for your help.

MICH is an indication for anything other than grunt who wear the LWH. But the OTV makes it unlikely to be Force Recon, so it could be Recon Battallion. One question, wtf is OTV II? There's just the OTV/IBA and the Army's IOTV.

I'm not sure on the OTV II but I heard someone use the expression when talking about the new Marine-molle vest with webbing on the whole back. But again, I may be wrong.

That would be the SPARTAN MTV

No, it was an OTV. It had the same front and back as the OTV. The newer OTV has webbing on the whole back. I'll try to find a picture or a video.

Highly unlikely to be Force or Battalion Recon, but rather one of three FAST (Fleet Anti-terrorist Security Team) Companies located near by.

Maybe that's just jargon or slang. The USMC's Coyote Brown OTV/IBA came/comes in three different versions, all of which seem to be used for training only nowadays. Those would be the original version from Point Blank with only the lower parts on the front and back with MOLLE, then another version with a full MOLLE back, and the Savannah Luggage one with full MOLLE front, back and even on the shoulder plus velcro on the chest for name and rank patches.

Okay, that's also possible. Didn't see the film, made my assumptions just on his gear descriptions. Must be an older film then, Recon Bat. and FAST like to wear plate carriers and other more current stuff nowadays.

I got some caps, but the quality isn't the best.
The documentary is from 2009.
To me it looks like OTVs but I understand that the vest and helmet isn't much to use when to ID a unit.

Wow, I need to see that video. 2009 that doesn't sound old at all.
Well, it's not your fault. Different to the Army, the Marines usually don't wear unit patches, flags and all the shebang. Yes, it's the OTV/IBA they are wearing, the standard one made by Point Blank. Helmet is indeed the ACH/MICH. So just like HollywoodMarine said, they are probably FAST Marines. Extraordinary is how truely uniform their loadouts are set up: On the second pic from left all their IBAs/OTVs have on their back an empty radio pouch on the upper left attached and an IFAK pouch on the bottom right.

Is there any way to watch this documentary online? p-)

Their helmets (Fleet Marines don't have'em), loadout, and the number of Marines in the 2nd picture indiciates to me that they are FAST Company.

Well, you can download it but that's illegal.

Mabye NG has it up for streaming?
