Are looking after pictures of the 82nd airborne during the 1980-90th.
When was they stop using 1911a? Would it be posible to use, m16a2, pasgt and 1911 whit the black leather holster? and still be time period correct? Have a 1911a1 and a blck holster that are dated 1989.
Edit: ****, im stupid. This post is in the wrong place, please move it?

I reported to the 82nd in 1989 and all I saw were Beretta's in green holsters. Not to say there weren't any M1911s in some arms rooms but I didn't see any being worn.

I was Guard then. We had M16A1's and 1911A1 pistols. We saw a mix of weapons as we transitioned to A2's and M9's. Big Army got their toys first back then before the current ops tempo.

I got to Korea in 1988 and the 2ID had just received the M16A2 - the 82nd also had them when I arrived.

Thanks for that information.
How was the use of combat eqipment beside the LC2? The LBV was it used?
The reason to my questions is that a have good friend that have many of cloth and equipment for a 82nd soldier in ww2 and vietnam. And are now wanting to collect 1980th stuff, but only have the 1911a1, m16a2 and a pasgt helmet.
So all help would be grateful.

We used ALICE gear during the time I was in Division (89 - 92) - no TLBV or rucksac. I know the Airborne Board had problems getting the ruck jump qualified - I think it had to do with the frame breaking. I've also been told by several guys who were at Bragg in the 90's that they had a lot of jump injuries using the ILBV but I have no first hand knowledge of that. It makes sense, though, since a vest can interfere with the parachute harness. I know we never jumped wearing flak vests.

Here's something I've been wondering: About what time did the Army decide it was going to roll the BDU sleeves cammy side out? (take off blouse, yank sleeves all the way up, roll once, roll again, flip cuff over, don blouse)

I was doing it in basic training in '87.

My father was doing that when they were first issued BDU's in '79 or '80. I think it went back further than that however. It did not seem like a new thing they just started doing when the BDU's came out.

Actually I don't think anyone had BDUs until after 1980. I got out in August, 1980 and no one was wearing them. When I went to Airborne School in May of '82 only a handful of people were wearing them. We were issued them in ROTC (I should say we bought them) and I spent three weeks with the 82d in August of '82. They had completely switched to BDUs and Kevlar helmets at that time. The rest of the Army was in the process of switching.
As far as rolling the sleeves - AFAIK they were rolled that way from the time they were first issued. We even rolled them that way in ROTC (while wearing white T-shirts ).

When did the USAEUR fully switch from the M1 helmet to the PASGT?

I got to the 1st Armored Division (Bamberg, Erlangen, Ansbach area) in October of '83 and we still had M1 helmets. We switched to PASGT around mid-'84. I believe most all of USAREUR switched around the same time. As a tanker it wasn't quite as big a deal as for others. We wore CVC helmets 90% of the time. Technically you were supposed to switch to the M1/PASGT whenever you got off the tank but, unless I was going to the Battalion TOC, I tried to ignore that little rule as much as possible p-).
