They needed to add a hood like in the USAF jacket which is basically a copy of the IPFU.

The Army has been working for sometime to improve the Physical Fitness Uniform and word is that the Army has chosen a new fabric for the IPFU jacket. It is reported to be a reflective digital pattern that will appear all Gray during daylight. Remember, it’s all about the branding.
No word on how soon it will be adopted as the Chief of Staff still has to officially approve it for use.http://soldiersystems.net/2009/07/09/army-improved-physical-fitness-uniform-jacket/

WTF, why? I heard rumors about this at least a year ago, I was hoping it would never see the light of day. I may really follow through with enlisting in the Marine Corps if this keeps up...

It seems like the Army wants to get rid of green completely.
Gray/blue ACUs, Blue ASU, now gray/blue PTs... I don't understand :|

If we do have to wear that ridiculous jacket, maybe we can get rid of the reflective belts.

You guys really have too much money in your hands. And that was me thinking fighting two wars was too much of a burden to your economy... but I guess you can always waste a few hundred millions in something you absolutely don't need (and that to add insult to injury looks somewhat ridiculous).

Oh dear god... when will it stop. I'd rather freeze during PT when we redeploy back to Alaska than wear that jacket.

Do you know the best part? Now the Air Force and the Navy will want their own wonderful digipat PT gear, because they want to be cooler than the Army. The Marines, of course, will be passing the popcorn and enjoying the show.

Didnt the Marines already have a new Pt uniform?
Edit: found it

http://www.marcorsyscom.usmc.mil/sites/pmice/InfoPapers/Clothing/MCRS_2008.pdfI was issued the tracksuit in boot camp, and have never, ever worn it. Any PT I've ever done has been boots-and-utes or green-on-green.

"Physical Fitness Uniform "
what does it means in a human language? It means adaptive (for landscape) pattern?

what does it means in a human language? It means adaptive (for landscape) pattern?
It means...clothes in which they exercise? Apparel for working out? Outfits for PT? Attire for...calisthenics? Costumes for looking like clowns? Gear in which they...run around...and stuff?

I have it too and it's an optional item for PT (and I hope it stays that way). Only time we PT in green on green is for PFTs

I'm for this uniform. The digital pattern only lights up like that when hit by a light source during hours of darkness.
The reflective "V" on the chest and back of the current uniform isn't really that visible at night (or early early morning) when hit by headlights, even with a PT belt or vest. Anyone in the Army can tell you that, who's ever run late and had to rush driving to first formation in hours of darkness and almost hit pedestrians (in PT uniform) who are running across traffic to make it to their own formations. You can only see these people when you're almost right up on them. The reflectivity of the current PT uniform in the dark is only really effective if the wearer is facing the vehicle coming at him head-on; viewed from the side (which is the way people cross the street relative to the flow of traffic) not so much.

Only in the US Army would they come up with a CAMOUFLAGE uniform in order to be seen better :cantbeli:

Slightly moot of me to comment on this since I'll never have to wear it, but
What on earth?
Camouflage to PT in?
Camouflage to be seen?
They really take this digicam and corporate branding stuff seriously I suppose :|
Couldn't they just give them PT tops in a naturally bright colour, that helps you not get run over.
Or just let the blokes wear their own PT rig. I've not seen issue PT kit outside of basics/IOT/ph1 in our own system. Whilst I agree its wanted by the system for uniformity then, why the need for uniformity if you're sweating in the gym or out running on a weekday morning? If you're really fussed, a Pl/Coy/Bn T shirt would also be fine.
Plus whoever said OD for PTing in, well surely that would be a way to get hit by a car? :|

well, I've to agree
Do you have to wear the uniform? So why would you agree? If you really want to make it effective, they might as well make the WHOLE jacket reflective.

Couldn't they just give them PT tops in a naturally bright colour, that helps you not get run over. That would make things too easy. It was before my time, but in the late 80s/early 90s I believe, the PT uniform was yellow (gold) and black, the US Army's official colors.

But then it would be a three color digital reflective pattern.

Didn't the Army have brown stuff at some point?
