Remember reading about something similar the Israeli's use awhile back. Think they set them up on top of cranes or something.

Still it lacks any ability to disengage, and relocate on it own.
Which a human Sniper can do.

So from the looks of things without some sort of support nearby it is a prime target for being stolen..yes even on top of a crane.

Mortar fags are out of line of sight, this won't deter them. Do our guys even bother shooting back at them with counter-battery fire?

When you find it take it, and leave a bunch of armed Claymores in its place. 'Happy face' paint optional. :D

I guess the next step is to hook it up to some sort of vehickle chassis, and run around the countryside like a preditor drone on wheels.

I bet its pretty expen$ive.

More likely to be used in fixed defensive positions or off AFVs. Guard towers and the like. Possibly CounterSniper roll at preparred events.

until the batterys run out

Solar power by day..with a 'not too close' but within its zone of protection (buried) hydrogen fuel cell for the cloudy days and nights.

Make an X-box live the server, and control unit, and then everyone at home can serve their country from their living rooms. rofl

It resembles a sentry gun from some strategy game.
I guess it`s very good to defend a fixed position.

This would be decent for overwatching mine fields

It's based on the Royal Marine's course but is a week longer, and it's bloody tough especially manual range estimation, I'm next to useless at it, but I'm slogging through and still going and it's in Ireland :D

If you view it as a replacement for a Sniper then I think it is bad.

If however you use it where long range accuracy is important but a snipers other skills are not needed then it is probably a very good idea.

After reading the article it seems to me to be a remote control rifle that is used for perimeter control or vehicle defence. Actually I think a belt fed machine gun would make more sense instead of a sniper rifle, but there you go.

I also think that protecting a LAV with a cannon with a small remote control rifle... even if it is 50 cal is a little redundant, though it makes sense for a HUMVEE.

Agreed. A heavy barreled GPMG using single shots would be better IMO as you don't need to be 10 feet away to change the magazine after a few shots.

I like the idea of running it via fiber optics from more like.... miles away p-)

Would be useful in a number of circumstances. One or two people can run a few of these and "watch" areas that normally would have taken triple the amount of people or more to physically patrol it. Good if you're tight on manpower.

I still like the thought of using them as overwatch tools for minefields, bridges, or down major streets. Conceal it as best as possible, set up a few claymores around it, heck, maybe even another system in an overwatch position on it. That way if anyone tries to screw with it up close, it's covered.
