Hi! So im back in hot and rocky country, and have some question to you guys. Im curently training ANA in east of country and our comander alows as to use only plate carrier with ballistic plates and no soft ballistic material. Question: how safe it is to wear only plates and what is the conseqencies when not wearing soft ballistic material and get some bulet or shrapnel in plate?
Walking around in only plate carrier of course is much more comfortable but i have heard that without soft ballistic inserts its prety dangerous and traumatic. So i will apreciate any info and experiance!
Thanks in advance!

If your plates are rated as stand alone then you're fine. If they arent...you need to wear SBA.

What is the marking for those stand alone plates?
our plates are made in norway by frec technology. type patron para
Protection level: Acc. to NIJ 01.01.04 level IV in conjunction with IIIA vest.

So it is only rated to level IV in conjunction with the IIIA soft armour....

if you have an in conjunction plate, you can also get soft armor plate backers that are inserted behind the plate in a plate carrier

Then you have a LEVEL III(ICW) Plate with you,the Back face deformation is your problem.

you need to get a level IIIA soft armor backing in order for your plates to be capable of protecting you to level IV. The plate is probably level III as a standalone get those soft armor inserts in

As it was said above. Wearing level IV ICW plate alone usually provides equivalent of level III protection in regard of bullet stopping abilities, although BFD would be hard to calculate. Frec - a subsidiary of NFM is a very capable manufacturer but generally all their plates are ICW in order to keep lower profile. The soundest advice I can get you is to get a pair of IIIA (military spec, without .44 Mag) plate backers for the plate carrier and enjoy a full level IV protection instead of wondering "will it stand".
