One of my friends on a multi-state road trip just swung by my place. She's doing the trip in her new Toyota Prius. She's been getting 49 mpg and says she has no trouble whatsoever keeping pace on any highway (even passing other cars going up the Rocky Mountains).
I hadn't been too excited about hybrid cars, but that's pretty cool. The Prius is Fugly, but the Civic Hybrid just looks like a normal sedan.
So does anyone out there have some first-hand experience with hybrids? What did you think?

My concept of a hybrid car is one that has forced induction AND nitrous.
So sorry, not much help here.

If I had the extra $$$ to buy a commuter car I would. Some days in the great O you just don't want to ride the bike to work (ok, 9 months of the year).
However, I'm still going to have a gas guzzler. You can't mount a rack on those things (and not have it be a dog). I'd like to see a Prius (etc) driving on I5 with two bikes and a few kayaks.

I'll probably get a hybrid in the future (when I have actually money), but I'll stick with my Accord for now. Since the Prius is such a hit, and with gas prices skyrocketing, they're probably offer more makes and models with hybrid engines. I saw on tv that they were developing a Dodge Ram with a hybrid engine.

The hybrids that are out right now are just the beginning. Now that the technology has been around for purchase for a few years, more and more manufacturers are going to be making them, and they'll become more powerful and efficient all the time. Eventually they should come down to the price of a normal sedan.
well, you can get Toyota Highlander with hybrid 4wd, v6 , 3.3L, 270 hp.
and soon Lexus RX400 hybrid.
its only beginning, hybrid technology will get beter and beter.
btw 2005 Prius has alot of cool things inside, much beter then civic

I got excited about hybrid technology when the very first one came out (it was Japanese, but I can't remember the make). I still think it's a great idea, maybe one day when I have more money I'll get one.

Hybrid cars ?
As long as we have highways without speed limit I will not buy a hybrid.
