A Muslim care home owner has been branded 'a disgrace' after banning his pensioner residents from eating bacon. The 40 pensioners - none of them Muslim - were shocked when all pork products were cut off the menu by owner Dr Zulfikar Ali Khan.He stopped deliveries from the butcher who supplied the home for years and instead ordered halal-meat only from another firm.

In b4 'daily-hate-mail', I'll take this with a pinch of salt as no doubt it has been through the usual sensationalism mill. But if true, the guy is a prick and it's good to see things are back to normal for the residents.

Meh, according to the torygraph the same guy has owned the place for 15 years and 1 measly delivery has been halal in the midst of switching meat supplier; he claims that the residents are free to continue to eat their bacon and that it would be wrong for him to impose his religious views on patients and staff.

There was this one time, in Kosovo...
I brought some bacon and egg banjos back from the cookhouse. The locally employed civilians (Kosovar Albanian Muslims) got a whiff and wanted to know what the meat was. I told them it was Ostrich and would they like some. They did and said it was delicious. I didn't tell them until the day I left, a month later. Seeing as they also drank alcohol in their own time, I couldn't give a fcuk about them :-)

When in Rome, do as the Romans do.
I couldn't live without porc but I respect those who don't eat it.
I don't like pork, but if someone wants their pork products and pay for it they should have that right. UK is not a Islamic republic.

The problem is its the second biggest paper in the UK.... obviously a lot of people enjoy reading it. I doubt those that read it, do so because they disagree with its line. But I do agree with your sentiment... and as some already said 'Daily Hate Mail'.

If you lived in the UK and read the Daily Mail you would also reach the same conclusion that it is a hate-filled, pack of right wing lies written by people with intense self-loathing (unless you are a re-incarnation of Genghis Khan or something)

I know that wikipedia is not a great source of information, but this is all I could find in such a quick search.
Rothermere was a friend and supporter of both Benito Mussolini and Adolf Hitler, which influenced the Mail's political stance towards them up to 1939.[18][19] Rothermere visited and corresponded with Hitler. On 1 October 1938, Rothermere sent Hitler a telegram in support of Germany's invasion of the Sudetenland, and expressing the hope that 'Adolf the Great' would become a popular figure in Britain. However, this was tempered by an awareness of the military threat from the resurgent Germany, of which he warned J.C. Davidson. Rothermere had an executive plane built by the Bristol Aeroplane Company which, with a speed of 307 mph, was faster than any fighter. In 1935, this plane was presented to the RAF on behalf of the Daily Mail where it became the Bristol Blenheim bomber.[20]
In 1937, the Mail's chief war correspondent, George Ward Price, to whom Mussolini once wrote in support of him and the newspaper, published a book, I Know These Dictators, in defence of Hitler and Mussolini. Evelyn Waugh was sent as a reporter for the Mail to cover the anticipated Italian invasion of Ethiopia.
Rothermere and the Mail supported Neville Chamberlain's policy of appeasement, particularly during the events leading up to the Munich Agreement. After the Nazi invasion of Prague in 1939, the Mail changed its stance.

From the looks of things the paper leans to the Right, so anythng that leans that way is discredited?
I read the Daily Mail for years like my old man, and I then switched to the Telegraph, and I look at myself as coming from an upper working class family.

Well they didn't have much choice about changing their tune when war became inevitable. We had the death penalty for treason in those days!

You made it sound as though they supported Hilter through the war. A little misleading don't you think?

Not really.
The proprietor changed his tune when he realized he had no option. If the flow had gone the other way then he would have gone down the Nazi route instead.
Anyway this is going OT. The credibility of the story in the OP has been completely undermined by other more reliable sources!

This was posted above in this thread. I haven't checked the Torygraph myself yet.
Edit: I have now
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/religion/5849966/Muslim-owner-took-pork-products-off-Yorkshire-care-home-menu.html
Dr Khan, who has owned the home since 1994, said: "There has been one delivery of halal meat and people have misunderstood the concept.
"As soon as I realised this I held a senior staff meeting and I made it abundantly clear that residents could have any meat product or food they wished.
"I agree it would be quite wrong for someone to impose their religious or cultural beliefs on others, but this is not the case."
Surely if he was a Jihadist fanatic he would have instituted this alleged policy when he opened the home in 1994 rather than waiting for 15 years!
