U.S. President Barack Obama shifts his effort to convince the American people healthcare reform is the right thing to do right now to prime time Wednesday.

In an evening news conference, Obama is expected to outline the case for healthcare reform as well as provide an update on what has been accomplished since he took office in January.

White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel told The New York Times Obama intends to use the news conference as a "six-month report card," to talk about "how we rescued the economy from the worst recession" and the legislative agenda moving forward, including health care and energy legislation.

Political observers said Obama is at a pivotal moment in his presidency because how he handles the healthcare issue during the next few weeks could help shape the rest of his presidency and his relationship with Congress, among other things.

"He's got to be careful that while he ratchets up the pressure, he doesn't bet his whole presidency on whether this gets done before the August recess," said Kenneth Duberstein, who molded President Ronald Reagan's first-term legislative strategy. "He has a broad, broad agenda that he's in a rush to enact, and if he's not careful he will be viewed as a steamroller who tries to get things fast and not necessarily right."

A little premature to make the claim that they have rescued the economy from the worst recession, after all, nothing has changed apart from alot of spending on their part.

No evidence of that from where I'm sitting! As a matter of fact, things are going from bad to worse here in California. The hilarious thing (if it wasn't so serious) is that Obama says he's going to use the California economy as a model for the rest of the U.S. :cantbeli:

I know he was specifically addressing Cap and Trade but that's exactly why this states in such serious trouble.

Grab some popcorn and see what happens if his healthcare package passes......

Video from John Boehner in reference to the current admins remarks.
Living in Ohio myself and being unemployed due to being temporarily laid off in Jan, which was made permanent in June, I have yet to see any evidence of a rescued economy.

Well, they are saying now that it is a "done deal" and will be passed completely by the house no later than Jul 31...That's a rabid Democrat source saying it.

If this passes as the Dems have devised it...and the Pubbies stay firm and vote "NO" to a man...as I think they will...this will be the end of the Democrat party. Americans will wake up to the nightmare the Dems created all by themselves. And come the next elections, the blood bath will be record breaking.

As I see it, the only way out of this mess for the Rats is to abandon it completely...toss the entire package of mumbo-jumbo into the garbage where it belongs and then meekly sweet talk the Pubbies into coming into a fully bi-partisan tent to frame the next "health Care Reform" bill. No politician wants to own this Frankenstein Monster of legislation alone.

I wonder if Obama will parachute in from a C17 with the 82nd in full battle rattle and declare "mission accomplished".

I can see how Obama's peeps will go around declaring economic victory.....but if President Obama himself openly states how "we" rescued the economy he will be nailing his own re-election coffin.

Kind of reminds you of "Mission Accomplished" debacle for Bush.

Premature indeed and for all purposes of discussion, utterly laughable.

Damn, DirectTV is giving me free MLB package for the rest of the week. Watched 3 games simultaneously instead of listening to that crazy Hawaiian.

I loved the part when he talked about Prof. Gates unjust arrest in his own home. That was pretty funny. On what would happen to him if he tried breaking into the White House: "I'd get shot." rofl

What is funnier yet is a privelaged "mulatto" man talking anything at all about racial injustice. I don't think obomba knows anything of what he is talking about and it shows. You don't experience racial injustice growing up attending private schools and furthering himself by taking advantage of affirmitive action and having his education paid for by Saudis.
