Is it true that process of acquiring a british citizenship is exactly the same like in United States?

I'm not sure, go check out the UK and US immigration websites and I expect you'll find everything you want to know there.

Not really, no. British Citizenship, if you were born before '83 (81?), can be attained if your father or mother was a British subject, or had claim to British citizenship. If that's not the case, you have to attain a permit for permanant residency, then live there for a period of time before you can become a citizen.

In order to become an American citizen, I believe you either have to live there for five years - after getting a permit for permanant residency - and then take an oath of citizenship.... either that, or marry an American - but the latter I'm none too sure of anymore.

At least, I believe that's how it still works. Your best bet is to contact a consulate or look it up on their respective websites.

You only get a green card if you marry someone with a U.S. citizenship.

You only get a green card if you marry someone with a U.S. citizenship.

There are means to apply for an I551 - which is the "green card" according to the US government..... but you get awarded one based entirely on a "lottery" system.

The lottery is bunk, because I think if your country had more than 50thousand people who immigrated to the USA your country cannot enter the lottery for 2 years I think. I dont know the exact facts...but of course Canada has had more than 50k in the USA since last year. I think there might be a easier way to get in because of NAFTA but Im not sure.

Clarification:

My original post was in response to Knave's comment. In no way did I meant that that was the only way to receive a green card.

What I should have said: "That would only get you a green card."

Sorry for the misunderstanding.

I don't know, I do know that things are easier for commonwealth citizens. As to the exact requirments, I guess you should check the Immigration Service's web site. I know we had some Bosnian refugees working as instructors at the Language School - they were trying to fullfill a 5 year residency requirement (but that was a few years back).
