Well, Obama pretty much stated before while combat troops would be generally withdrawn, he would be willing to send them back at the Iraq gov's request.

Basically it depends on the SOFA...if the Iraqi government wants to change the SOFA and it may, then US troops may stay in Iraq.

Bingo! It would be giving up a possible area to stage bombers, troops, and other equipment in a possible future war with a number of nations.

Of course oil was the main motivation of this war. It is not politically correct to say it, but it is the truth. As I see it there is no justification for the US to keep occupying Iraq. It was an illegal war from start to finish.

We are still occupying Germany, Japan & South Korea also, why in the hell are we going to give Iraq back?

By this list we also occupy Italy, UK, Spain and a few others. You want to add Finland to that list? The US has occupied so much of the world it's hard to keep it all straight.

Of course you won't because there is oil there. Too bad for the Iraqis though. They will never see profits from those oil sales.

How does anyone know how much oil you really get from Iraq? You occupy the country. You can "import" oil from there with inpunity.

Man you really are closed minded up there in all that cold. The US only gets about 3-4% of it's oil from Iraq. You should play a came of chess, a learn a little about strategy.

So how much are we importing? You keep making claims as if you know what you are talking about, have anything to back it up?

yeah, it's it called the internet. I use a web site called google, you type in a question or anything related to what you want to look up. In this case I typed " how much oil does the US import" or "percentage of oil US imports" even "oil US import ". Don't forget to use web site that end in .gov or .org. You don't want to bad info from .com or .net web sites.

So how much are we importing?

Not nearly as much as the neocons in the last administration hoped to when they cooked up their invasion.

Because they're still trying to kill you?

What type of sovereignity does the Iraqi "government" have?

Full and complete. They determine when we leave. They negociate what if we get bases, where the bases get to be, how many troops, and how much we will pay in rent. Its been noted during Bush's time and its being reaffirmed now. They want us there. They don't want to take any chances with their rookie security forces.

This ought to be a conspiracy theory by now. Oil revenue has been flowing into Iraq's coffers for a while now and there were even complaints that they were not paying enough for their own aid and equipment because they were making so much. Heck even China is getting in on the act. One sad fact though....the oil they pull up mostly goes to China. While it will affect OPEC prices only a small percentage will ever hit US shores. We get most of ours from South America.

Budgie man...seriously....you can't pick up chicks with this line anymore. It just doesn't work.

How is a war illegal? Did america not fill out the proper paperwork or on time? That is the dumbest statement people say all the time.

Since the Saudis kicked the US Army out of their country not long ago, the US needs Iraq as their new base in the ME. Sadly, the functioning of the world relies on a steady supply of oil and so we need a stabilising presence in that crazy region.
