Sorry for the noob question, but it's been bothering me for some time.
Like the title suggests, is there any other use for the black piece of rubber stuck on the velcro at the soulder pocket of the frog uniform or is it just to protect the velcro?

Yeah, right, cause everyone knows IR reflectors only works when they're 1" square or smaller ...

IR patches come in various sizes. Normally it's 1" square, but also sometimes in 2".
The one in ZoneOne picture looks like 2".
This picture show IR patches in 1" and 2" square (The SD card is just for size).

But than again you guys know better than me. So can someone confirm that these are larger IR reflector patches?

YES it is a 2x2in. IR reflector. For whatever reason, the company that is providing these IR reflectors do not use the honeycomb type material (visible in the above pics), so it does kind of resemble a black piece of rubber. Under NVGs the honeycomb stuff is alot brighter IMO.

Thanks for the confirmation woot . I would think that these are cheaper to make than the honey comb type ir reflectors. So it should be the reduced cost.

I have two types of IR reflectors, honeycomb and a rubbery type that has finish that looks like black metal flake car paint.

Curious, I have several IR reflectors that are exactly that size.
What experience or knowledge is the basis of your statement?

Yes, it's just the large type IR patch the Marines use. They also stick it on top of their helmets. I have two of them.

Okay, guess I deserved that. I shouldn't have made the assumption just like that.

We have a 1" IR patch for our helmets, IR strobe/ light. And IR patches for each shoulder. For all you airsofters, we tend not to wear any IR during the day because of the obvious reflection it gives.
Wasssup...you may wanna lurk a lot more before you go around questioning answers from BTDT members.
