On a side-note, is it true you cant grip the rails because they get too hot during firing? Also, Does the army supply handguard's if your unhappy using the vertical grip thingymobob?

Daniel Defense in United States is the official rail manufacture for the British Military SA80A2. The won the contract hands down a few years back and they have been delivering the rail for the British soldiers since last year.

Is there any sources to back that up though? I know what the phrase means, just in this context there hasn't been any evidence provided to suggest that it was such a foregone conclusion..
