I've noticed quite a few SF photos showing troopers in NBC bunny suits hit the public domain in the last 1-2 years.
Prior to that I honestly cannot recall having seen even one readily available.
It leaves me with the distinct impression that the photos are being released to disclose preparedness to potential opponents and/or it's a skill many teams are scrambling to acquire/maintain. Either of which is a bit frightening :|

I think is a sort of rebreather
I do not believe it is a rebreather type of breathing device.
Most rebreathers for both under and above water use contain a counter-lung....which is a rubber bladder with large diamtere rubber tubes attached which is inflated/deflated by user breathing in/out...the diameter of the visible tubes leads me to believe it's a one way dump system...quite unlike the large diamter rubber hoses found on most rebreathers.
Just an observation. ;)
I think there are two air hoses going into their regulator .. so it would be a rebreather
The box on their backs look almost exactly like the rebreathers which are used for scuba diving

For me it looks more like reabreathers used by Mining rescue crews in coal mine's.
http://www.oceanfutures.org/kure/images/inspiration-rebreather.jpg
(The black thing on this picture is used to control your buoyancy)
(But obviously those GIGN guys haven't diving rebreathers on their backs: They don't really look like divers ;) )

Raid, Outstanding pictures. :D
What stick to my eye on these pictures, and pictures of the GIGN I have seen before, is exposured skin! You don't see that on pictures of the SAS, they are covered all over on similar situation.

Of course, it's a security. Their faces is not supposed be show to medias, as their method of work, and a part of their material.

very impressive photos, they seem well kitted out and have a lot of cool gear.
is that israeli style camo?
GIGN are badass. Question, is there a reason y some are using P90s instead of MP5 and its varients? Is the reason killing power, or penetration of armored targets?

Yep, since they specialize in LOTAR and other heavy "police" work, they protect their identity to avoid pressure and publicity.

Because it makes them look cooler ... ok that's wasn't funny ...
If we believe the FN leaflets, we can believe the FN 5.7 is used due to its penetration capacities on armored targets.

Modern day samurai !
the helmet is a Gallet KFS heavy duty helmet, the neck cover and the 20mm thick screen offer a reasonnable protection against bullets.
It's quite comfy (i've tried it) quite safe and on the contrary of what one may think it doesn't limitate head movements too much.

Less recoil (2/3 of 9mm) less risk of ricochet and over penetration than the 9mm, but can pierce 48 layers of kevlar (or 1.6mm of titanium + 20 layers of kevlar)

Yes I did....and they also use the urban grey version.
As far as the SAS, they did do an "open day" for their 50th birthday in Credenhill.

I don't think it's Israeli produced camo. It looks very similar but it's different in the pattern, the lack of rubber and not quite the same headcover.
Maybe pretorian669 might help us about this. He seems to be the local camo expert.

I think you are right, just like their hand to hand combat technique is Krav Maga, and it seems that some of their elements at least came for some "visits" at wingate.
The French army also have soem procurment with israeli companies, such as Rabintex for flak jackets.
I don`t know if those procurement contracts are still in place, but there are some contacts.

I've heard about the krav maga thing. But I thought cooperation with France ended in the 60's (which was one of Israel's best friend before that) after it started to back the arabs (because of the oil, I persume).

I guess my common sense doesn't work all the time.
Btw, pret, what happened to the universal pattern? I liked it quite a bit.

And another thing, the pattern is indeed Israeli:

I think you are right, just like their hand to hand combat technique is Krav Maga, yep I knew this, for its prominently displayed on the GIGN website and as well as it being mentioned before on this forum.
and it seems that some of their elements at least came for some "visits" at wingate. hehe  perhaps your right, but I am not sure how much visits happens now, for they have their own instructors now that teach it there, but yes I am sure there have been visits over the years.…….oh and its Vingate not wingate ;) :D (I hope you get what I am saying here p-) :D )
Anyways let me end off with a nice pic I found of the urban camo suit
