July 05, 2004 - An interview at Half Life Radio with Valve's Doug Lombardi seems to indicate that Half-Life 2 is now a Fall release:

On the ship date, we are planning to deliver a release candidate to Vivendi in August and we're hoping to see the product on store shelves this fall but we do not have a confirmed ship date at this time.

Good bye slow Summer sales, hello hot holiday shopping season!

First they said 9/30/03, then 10/2003, then 12/2003, then 4/2004, then 5-7/2004, then 8/2004, and then now 9-12/2004. :( What's holding them up??? This makes me very sad. :(

I guess I'll just have to settle for DooM 3. :(

I remember Gabe saying that the only thing they had to do was beta testing. :( I think that was shortly after 9/30/03. :(

HL2 better be pristine and bugless with the amount of time they've had to produce it.

You just know that despite Valve taking its sweet time, we're still going to be DL'n patches constantly to fix glitches durring the first month or 2. :/

Maybe that's what they're trying to avoid. Why else would Valve be delaying other than to make the game as close to perfect as possible? You think they'd do it simply out of spite? I'd rather see the game a year late and perfectly stable than having seen it a month or two early and have it nearly unplayable.

Just remember that the original Half-Life was also a year late, and it's become arguably the most successful game in history all things considered. It didn't even have top-of-the-line graphics either at that time. The HL engine was simply a drastic improvement of the original Quake engine.
