I think it is right forum to ask, am I right?

Just moved into CA, and planning to have a M700P for practice shooting and hunting.

I have checked some websites about the laws in CA, but I still have some questions.

1. Do I need a CA driver licenses or ID to buy a rifle?

2. Do I need to show my proof of residence?
(A website told me it is only if I am buying a pistol)

3. Are there any required time period besides 10 days for me to buy a firearms in CA?

If all three answers are "no". then is it means I just need to:

1.go to a shop,
2.pick a rifle,
3.show any of my photo ids (e.g. passport),
4.fill the form, and
5.wait for 10 days?

Having bought a rifle in california, I went through those 5 steps exactly. They didnt ask for a proof of residence but the forms did ask for your address. What I would do in your situation is call up the gun store and ask them. I have no idea about out of state licenses

try here as well: calguns.net

Well you're going to need a California license or ID card anyways, and if you have a vehicle you will need to register it with a California DMV within 10 days of moving into California, so you might as well just pick one up while you're doing that.

Beat me to it /\ good website right there. You'll need paperwork such as a utility bill or car insurance with your name on it, etc. to prove your address.

thanks, so I still need to get the ID first, since I used to live outside the State so I don't have a licenses here now. (I hate DMV, always crowded as hell)

I will get to some stores tomorrow for more details.

Make an appointment online. Cuts down significantly on the wait time. It also depends a lot on which area you're in. Where I live, the DMV can be a pain in the ass, even with an appointment, but drive 30 minutes away to Barstow, and you can be in and out in a matter of minutes.

The two forms of proof of residence is only for pistols. As far as long guns go, you just need a California Driver's license. You sign the DROS form and wait 10 days. For pistols, I believe you may only DROS one gun at a time, but you are allowed to DROS multiple long guns at once. If you plan on getting a pistol, you also need to take a ridiculously easy exam.

I am not 21 yet, so no pistol for me

but does CA limited certain pistol models as well? like they did on AR15s?
Would it be possible to get MK23 or USP-T?

It shouldn't be a problem to acquire either of those.

for rifles only:

all you need is a CA drivers license or id showing you are at least 18 years of age, fill out DROS form and background check fee then wait 10 days.

For Pistols:
you need all of the above and proof of CA residence (vehicle registration, property deed), handgun safety certificate (take super easy test and pay fee), and be at least 21 years of age.

the only new handguns you can buy in california have to be on the list of approved handguns but the california doj. the list can be found here.

http://certguns.doj.ca.gov/

if the gun is not on that list it can not be purchased new in the state from a dealer. as time went on the requirements to be on the list got tougher so some new pistols are not on there.

there are ways around it but it is expensive and time consuming.

any way, go to calguns.net it is a dedicated california shooting forum so they will be more then helpful.

the two you listed also have threaded berrals. a no no of pistols in the state. the closest thing on the list is a hk usp.
