The citizen was pretty upset, you can see the security guard in the suite behind him move up real close.

good, anyone who has been there over 2 terms needs to step down. They are all out of control.
Democrat part is irrelevant because he recently switched his title from Republican after 44 years, and the use of cards at town hall meetings has been a regular practice of both parties. You just can't have every Joe who wants to express his opinion speak because then these town halls will never end. What decent politicians should do is select equal amounts of questions from both sides and not avoid challenging questions.

I think Arlen did pretty good. It the guy had a gripe beyond pontificating about the power-hungry Beltway set, he bnever articulated it. He just kind of rambled.

I wish to God we had term limits on these people. In Specter's defense though, he handled it well.

Term limits FTW.
No wonder we have so much freaking corruption.
No term limits = long term corruption and payoffs.

And about the guy talking, he did well and made good points. He may have come off as a little rambling b/c he seemed a bit nervous and extremely frustrated.

The guy lost his cool, and who can blame him. Those idiots work for us, not the other way around. We will get term limits within the next 786654185 years, so it will be solved then.

Yeah, it's like poking a sleeping animal and wondering why it bites ya.
Gotta agree about the term limits, a few trillion years later.

Why do people continue to elect the same people and then complain how corrupt they are? Congress is very complex when it comes to law making and it doesn't hurt to have very experienced politicians there, but if people don't like their representatives, then it's their fault not the system.

Dude, Term LImits make it worse. Look at CA. Term limts make it so every person is groomed be special interest and becomes a lap dog of them while in office so they can be set for the next job. I know it sounds like a good idea but its has failed in CA.

Look, I don't care what these people actually believe or if they're given talking points or are merely ignorant. This sh*t has become some sort of sport to see if you can get on Youtube or CNN or Fox.
If you have a legitimate, well informed question ask it. They should have to explain their vote to their constituents...If you're just some dink with a stack of notecards and want to channel Bill O'Reilly then f*ckoff, you're not a beautiful and unique Joe the Plumber snowflake.
It's like the f*cktards that show up at American Idol auditions dressed as Klingons. Sure you might get on TV but you're still a c*nt.

I agree, but the majority of people are ****s. There is no way to speak to these guys, and with the economy in the sh!t state that its in people the pogues running the country need to be out amongst the populous. If they hide in the the big white buildings behind the big mean security items, then people start to wonder if things are going the right way.
"How is this asshole, WHOM I DIDN'T EVEN VOTE FOR, taking money from a company that is keeping me from getting a job in my own country. This is an outrage, I demand to speak with them." - ****y mccitizen.
People are worried, and sometimes it comes out at the wrong time. The fact that this guy blew up, imho, is freaking great. If specter was worth a ****, he would have heard from everyone in the audiene that wanted to speak. He works for us.

I agree that there are people with legitimate gripes out there and it's right that they should be able to have congressmen answer them. They won't of course, because they're politicians, but that's another issue...
If every person we elect to congress needs at least 30 people on staff because of the complexities and backroom deals then the system is broken. Period.
Specter really is too old and too self absorbed to even be there. But how much corporate knowledge is necessary to even be effective at their jobs? How many favors that can be called in, how much understanding of the system needs to be passed on? It really isn't a transparent and easily understood system....

The founding fathers set the system up, again imho, so that business folks, farmers, and the general citizenry would be going up for a couple months every year to make decisions. While I agree that our country, and the world, has grown well past something as simple as that we need to simplify. What the politicians have managed to accomplish in the past couple hundred years is the biggest build-up of red tape in the history of mankind. How do you eliminate that stuff? The giant staffs, perks that are ridiculous? Term limits?
The very people that benefit have to take it apart. This is what is known as "A bad situation". None of those idiots are selfless or patriotic enough to do what needs to done because it will cause them personal loss. They should make taking any money outside of what they get paid a crime of the highest order.
they make me sick.

Poor bastard was full of rage. Probably shocked he got to speak to King Specter. He didn't use any cuss words, to his credit. That citizen has got balls.
Specter's people are having the IRS audit the sh*t out of that guy just to break his balls.
Imagine standing there, you got that whole rooms attention, and you get the chance to speak. I doubt I could have been that articulate, given the circumstances. He's lucky he didn't get his a$$ beat by the gestapo, I mean thought police, I mean security guards.

Why not ban them from lobbying for 5 years after they leave. That might work.

Term limits?
Yeah there nice but what happens when the polls ignore or overturn them?
In NYC we voted in Term Limits twice in the 1990's .
Bloomberg the Republican Billionaire Mayor Schmuck and the Democratic City Council decided screw the law, screw the voters and overturned it so they can continue in office.
And the Lemmings in this city will likely vote for them. Bloomberg has workers every day coming around, spending millions on this campaign like they were skittles.

I agree. the dude who lost his cool, was 1. likely scare as hell, speaking in front of a large group of people is as spooky as a live grenade with the pin out and 2. I am sure the dude had stuff in his head he wanted to say and tried to do so and kind of made a couple of points, but got stuff mixed up..what with the 7 foot tall security guy in the black suit behind Specter and the two burly cops behind him and a Senator in front of him. hell the guy was likely some dude who works in a factory making parts for lawnmowers.
Specter is old (thats okay ask me) and he is a "smooth tongued devil" like Oblama mama. All policticos are. Sometimes you can spot them in college or high school...they just stand out as orators and smooth talkers, and full of themselves.

The funniest line in the Specter whole town hall was the dude who thanked Specter for coming to meet with the folks who elected him, the Republicans. LOL

That's one of the benefits of learning poetry by heart from a young age on and having to recite it in front of the entire class. The French have done this forever from primary to high school and it shows...
You completely lose that fear and don't react badly to little harassments (like purposely having sun reflected in your eyes from a watch:lol:).
Anyway, this whole episode is upsetting, just like when the Harvard law student started stuttering and swallowed his tongue when addressing Barney Frank.
These stupid oldies are the root cause of the problem in PA. They elected this guy for decades because he was promising freebies in every election and they loved it. Today PA has net outflow of young people who are sick and tired of high taxes and net inflow of oldies like this p*ssed off old dude who are piling into the state to take advantage of its freebies. Old people go to vote and young stay at home watching TV. Politicians know who to pander to. Thanks to the proposed healthcare bill scare some sense has entered the heads of these oldies who are now seeing the dangerous outcome of voting democrat for decades to get pensions and free medicines.

I can't believe the Democrats are going to back him in 2010.

Pree much.
I see the current extremist liberal bunch in power as "agendists"... they don't care as much about staying in power as they do getting what they want pushed through. But they also don't take kindly to the thought of relinquishing their power, either.

Well, we all can't be as wonderful and intelligent as the French. Of course the population of a country, has a lot to do with the way various programs (education, healthcare, politics, etc) are handled in that country. :)

There isn't quite a net inflow of oldies, people don't move here like it's Florida (I live in Allegheny County). Problem is, they don't leave either, and the state legislature, both the commies and facists - pander to Seniors here. Umpteen zillion tax breaks and abatements, so that the burden sharing isn't very equal. As it is we're a tax heavy state and have been under both the democrats and republicans. There is almost no ability to change local revenue streams because everything is held hostage in Harrisburg by the largest and least effective state government around. When they do agree on some form of a plan, it's only after Philthadelphia has been guranteed 65% of any urban funding pie.

Hey here's a good idea for those politicians planning on doing another town hall on healthcare:
Instead of telling the people what they are doing (kinda) why don't they ask what the people what???

Hey here's a good idea for those politicians planning on doing another town hall on healthcare:

Because doing that actually makes sense, and would imply they actually give two sh*ts about the people who voted them into office. :cantbeli:
The reaction is the same regardless of venue, so that should tell them that the majority of Americans don't agree with the changes they're proposing, so why don't they quit wasting their time and OUR tax dollars to fly around the country talking about it!
