What Obama's reading on the Vineyard
Posted: August 24th, 2009 12:30 PM ET
Obama plans to read five books on vacation, the White House said.
(CNN) — The White House has said President Obama plans to play golf and spend time with his family during his week away from Washington.
But it appears the president also wants to get some reading in: a lot of it.
... Read the rest here (http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2009/08/24/what-obamas-reading-on-the-vineyard/)
Funny, how they're fawning over President Obama golfing at The Vineyard but President Bush was chastised for it. Did someone not tell him there's a war on?
I was the first to say "give him a chance," but can't defend taking vacations while the country's unemployment rate is at near record levels, the war rages on and his favorite topic -- health care -- appears to be on the rocks. Par for the course I guess.

His predecessor spent 487 days at Camp David and 490 days at his ranch during his presidency. When Obama gets anywhere near those numbers, call me.

yes yes yes yes
This bears repeating.
Can't blame the guy for taking a vacation frankly. I've been without a vacation longer than he's been on the job and need to plan how to use my vacation time before the year runs out and I'm **** out of luck(no money for fun). Well at least he can afford a real vacation I'll probably just take a staycation.

"One week?"
Christ on a motherf*cking pushbike, to paraphrase Chops, all f*cking Presidents take vacations, apparently a lot of them do it in August, W took a lot more than most. That's just a gawddamned fact. He was kinda chastised because he said, "Hey, invade that Iraq place, country, the one nest to the other one that sounds kinda like it...let me know how it goes I'll be on the ranch."
It's never a good time when you're President. But the fact is, no matter what your political leanings it's a stressful job and I doubt they even have much fun whilst they're trying to relax..
What is your point, that you're all butthurt that the media didn't fully appreciate W's vacation itinerary?
This old chestnut again.

"Butthurt?" No, I've pretty much accepted the fact the fawning won't stop for 7 more years.
This was mere tit for tat cynicism for the crowd that went ape-shyte over GWB taking his first vacation. Whether the war was 1 day or 1000 days should not matter. And I was also there to say that no Prez is ever truly out of contact with modern comms being what they are, obviously true for the current administration as well.
Is this the "Political Discussions and RANTS" section or is it being revamped and renamed the "PC" section? I guess one can rant as long as it causes nothing but goosebumps and giddiness.

Yeah, everyone's entitled to a vacation, but when there's people who can't even afford to put food on the table and this guy's going and spending more in a week than some people make in a year on a vacation (in the middle of a recession) it does kind of raise some eyebrows.

Nah, don't be so pessimistic.
I think he'll honestly be a 1-term president. Look at how his numbers have sank just since January. If he keeps that act up, Conservatives will regain control after the 2010 midterms, and he'll be a lame-duck for his last two years. Therefore making a Huckabee-Palin victory in 2012 even sweeter.

PC section? No. If you are going to come out with bone posts, you can at least expect someone to pick you up on it. Hot ****, the guy had a holiday. Christ, our economy is tanking, we're stuck in a failing war and ALL our democractic representatives have gone on their annual three month recess.
Country always seems to improve whilst they are gone, which is strange.

Poorly. According to the White House the WoT is over (http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2009/aug/06/white-house-war-terrorism-over/?feat=home_headlines), anyway.

Newsflash, it happens every Presidency, especially if you "start" the war.
Frankly you seem bitter and jaded that the media likes the black guy more than the pretend cowboy. He's new and people want to believe he's magic and not another douchebag politician, that they elected, cause they're in denial and think some politicians are magic...I don't think Obama should be taking a vacation either. But what're you gonna do. If the media you're watching seems too fawning, watch the opposite media from the last administration. I'm sure they're all foaming at the mouth and hoping for a shark attack.

As much as Bush was criticised for taking his long holidays I'm sure that even he didn't really get away from work once the wars were on. I kinda picture the President's time at Camp David, Martha's Vinyard or even a Texan ranch more of a study session, where they can get a lot of behind the scenes work done without press conferences and townhall meetings. Or who knows, he could be just clearing brush.
Hey, maybe those who don't like it can take their flags, guns and birth certificates down there and picket the place....

um, um, um! I fully agree that young nubile Ms. Palin is so much easier on the eyes, than an politcian I have seen in ages....close your eyes and envision Palin, compared to Bob Dole, Obamalama, McCain, Billy "Hornytoad" Clinton, or "Jemmie" Carter......yikes.
I don't think she has a snowballs chance in hades of being presidential timber, because of the medias continued beating up on her, and the wide spread perception that she is a dingy good lookin chick. Too bad, we still judge people by their looks...called Lookism, which I hate. If we were to apply the same principal to Obama, and judge him by his "looks" (being half African American) we would be called racist. But it gets a pass on Palin. Amazingly enough almost all the women in America were/are against Palin, I think because of her attractive looks. Odd. Jealousy?
Anyway, she was a sure a lot easier on the eyes, than the other candidates in the election. Plus she had a lot of that "down home" country charm, as previously seen in George W. Bush, and Sam Ervin.

Hehe, I don't think so. I agree that the media has been exceptionally hard on her but at the same time, Palin and the Republican party need to understand that leading the U.S. is not the same thing as running a PTA. I give her credit for being plucked from obscurity and handling herself relatively well under the public microscope but at the same time, she has not impressed me as someone who understands the complexities of the country she wants to lead.
Besides, it seems fairly accurate to say that it's usually the men who comment on her looks, not the women.
