Anyone here knows the story behind the 3th pic...I've seen it countless times yet have no idea what it's all about.
Anyone here knows the story behind the 3th pic...I've seen it countless times yet have no idea what it's all about.
The third pic referring to the dude shooting the other dude in the head w/a revolver. That pic shows an infamous ARVN General executing a captured vietcong soldier. He had a reputation for being an alcoholic, and in that pic, not having too much common sense.

haha 3th......anyway
http://www.treefort.org/~cbdoten/rvntanks/080-4450.htm
the guy with the revolver was a S. Vietnamese General, and the guy being shot was a VC prisoner
His name is Nguyen Ngoc Loan.
Here's more info on him.. Funny he moved to America after the NVA, and Cong took over South Vietnam.

I think those are the early starlite scopes used for night operations. Of course iit doesn't look to dark in the pic.

wow those are really awesome picts woot
btw I heared that there were a lot of cases where US troops were killing Vietkong without any trial.
As there was one thing a reported heared when he was on a chopper, machine gunner was firing and reported said "How do you know if the person that you are shooting at is a Vietkong?"
and soldier replied:
"A person who stands is a well trained Vietkong, the person who runs is a bad Vietkong"

I'm pretty sure those are high powered binoculars being used beside (to the left) of the m16. The m16 appears to have iron sights.
A scope that big would make the m16 really inaccurate for the range that scope would allow, unless it had a bipod. That m16 seems to be standard issue, no bipod.

I'm think those are night vision scopes called PVS-2 (Starlights)

To add more - the executed Viet Cong in the picture was responcible for deaths of close friends (soldiers I belive) of the ARVN general performing the execution. So the execution carried more of a personal vendetta than just random killing of a prisoner.
The ARVN general did flee to the US and I belive resides somewhere in the Valley, in California... There is a follow up picture of him, some twenty years later - sitting in a pizza parlor he owns and opperates - strangely enough, he hardly aged...

The picture is so infamous because the Vietcong scumbag looks like a poor innocent civilian and General Loan looks like an angry, violent rebel sort of guy.
To quote my former manager at the Deli, a tank driver during the '68 offensive. His words about Tet were simply, "It Sucked."
If you don't mind Goldman, I would like to add more pics.

Why the hell are they using those in daylight then ?
i kinda doubt its NVG probably the same model scope but different purpose, probably just standard zoom lense.

I thought it went:
Soldier- "How can you shoot the women and children?"
Door Gunner- "Thats easy, don't lead them as much."
b.scheller
07-08-2004, 12:51 AM
the quote is actually...
door gunner: Anyone who runs is V.C. Anyone who stands still is well-disciplined V.C.
the next line is
joker: How can you shoot women and children?
door gunner: Easy... you don't lead 'em so much.
[laughs]
door gunner: Ain't war hell?

Yeah, now I can see the belt.
