The Palestinian Authority's chief Islamic judge, Sheikh Tayseer Rajab Tamimi, said on Wednesday that there was no evidence to back up claims that Jews had ever lived in Jerusalem or that the Temple ever existed.
Tamimi claimed that Israeli archeologists had "admitted" that Jerusalem was never inhabited by Jews.
Tamimi's announcement came in response to statements made earlier this week by Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, who said that Jerusalem "is not a settlement," and that "the Jews built it 3,000 years ago."
"Netanyahu's claims are baseless and untrue," said Tamimi, the highest religious authority in the PA. "Jerusalem is an Arab and Islamic city and it always has been so."
Tamimi claimed that all excavation work conducted by Israel after 1967 have "failed to prove that Jews had a history or presence in Jerusalem or that their ostensible temple had ever existed."
He condemned Netanyahu and "all Jewish rabbis and extremist organizations" as liars because of their assertion that Jerusalem was a Jewish city.
Tamimi accused Israel of distorting the facts and forging history "with the aim of erasing the Arab and Islamic character of Jerusalem." He also accused Israel of launching an "ethnic cleansing" campaign to squeeze Arabs out of the city.
"By desecrating its holy sites, expelling its Arab residents and demolishing their homes and confiscating their lands and building settlements in Jerusalem, Israel is seeking, through the use of weapons, to turn it into a Jewish city," he said. "This is a flagrant violation of all religious, legal, moral and human values."
In another development, Hamas and Islamic Jihad on Wednesday rejected the political platform of PA Prime Minister Salaam Fayad.
The platform, which was published on Tuesday, pledges that the Fayad government would work toward establishing a de facto Palestinian state within two years even if no agreement was reached with Israel. The platform talks about peaceful resistance against Israeli "occupation." The two Islamic groups said in response that the only way to establish a state was through "armed struggle." They said that Fayad's plan was unrealistic and unclear, adding that it would be impossible to establish a state "under occupation."

To paraphrase Begin, I refuse to recognize his non-recognition.
But, nonsense like this does nothing at all to further the peace process. If anything, it chills discussion as it is an erosion of common ground. In other words, the Palestinians should not expect me to recognize their claims if they do not recognize mine.

IMHO there is no such thing as right thinking , i laugh at this foolish jugde but i also laugh of the foolish FM Israel has , i will admit im not neutral , i try to be as i really think both sides is fvcked up sometimes , Israel dropping tons and tons of bombs over Gaza thus killing many innocents and the fvcking terrorist scum that fires rockets at civillians and commits suicide acts again against civillians .
stop being a troll and stay on topic. you have a history of doing this.
i think this article just back up the fact that there are many high ranking people in PA positions who are obviously either totally bias to an extreme extent or totally unqualified to be in the position. either way they are doing both their people and the whole peace process an injustice.

Can someone give this guy a History lesson? What history lesson? Don't you know that Al Aqsa was built by Adam before Jews ever settled the place, and the Western Wall was part of a large Jewish vault where they kept looted properties from innocent ancient Palestinians. Then the Crusaders spread the lies of the bible around the world. p-) An archeologist in Israel once told me that Arafat and some of these imams dreaded every new discovery in Jerusalem confirming Jewish life from times of Salomon because then they had to work harder on creating better propaganda.

Just for simple information purposes and respect to history the city Jerusalem was founded by the people called Solymoi who lived in
Asia Minor. Homer calls the city Hierosolyma meaning the holy place of Solyms.
Flavius Josephus the Jewish historian mentions the ancient name of the city Solyma.
Flavius also quotes that the word Solyma means security in Hebrew.

Outside of this there is little if any reference to the people or name of the city you cited.
If you are referring to Lycians than I don't think there is much evidence to support your claim that they built the city.

You're right. Many wonderful historical discoveries have been done recently. This is one of them.
Another one is about Athena. In hebrew it is called Atuna or ha-Tuna (The Tuna). It was discovered that the city was founded by ancient jewish fishermen, and was originally a base for storage and processing of this sort of fish.
Same thing about Washington - now the capital of the United States. Turned out that the city was founded by the same fishermen, and originally its name was simply "Fishingtown".

Τhe full story of the Solyms and their king Solym can be found in Herodotus CLIO 173.
of course every historical source is a subject of research and verification.

A little contribution about the origin of some tribes of Palestine.
Archaeologists have now found that not only were Philistines cultured, they were also literate when they arrived, presumably from the region of the Aegean Sea, and settled the coast of ancient Palestine around 1200 B. C.
At the ruins of a Philistine seaport at Ashkelon in Israel, excavators examined 19 ceramic pieces and determined that their painted inscriptions represent a form of writing. Some of the pots and storage jars were inscribed elsewhere, probably in Cyprus and Crete, and taken to Ashkelon by early settlers. Of special importance, one of the jars was made from local clay, meaning Philistine scribes were presumably at work in their new home.
The discovery is reported in the current issue of The Israel Exploration Journal by two Harvard professors, Frank Moore Cross Jr. and Lawrence E. Stager. Dr. Cross is an authority on ancient Middle Eastern languages and scripts. Dr. Stager, an archaeologist, is director of the Leon Levy Expedition to Ashkelon, a Harvard project.

What do Philistines have to do with Arabs living in the land of Israel, except for the chance they might have absorbed some of their offspring? And what does that have to do with the fact that saying Jews have no history in Jerusalem is completely insane.
Oh and as for that archeological research, how many times have Arab Muslims tried to prevent such research? In case I was the researcher, I was blocked from entering the Temple Mount twice... contrary to HaKotel and the Holy Sculpture Church :)
This lunatic from his pathetic PA should really do some history. The only reason less history would be known about Jerusalem is because they tried to destroy it more than once (Jordanians were very good at it).

The chance of arab absorbtion of their offspring is zero. In "Palestine" there was not a single Arab at the time when the Philistines had completely disappeared from this land.

I was just thinking of the slightest possibility someone in the land of Israel might have somehow been connected generations go with Philistines when the Arabs came into the region [and claim they have always been there].
Anyways some people believe Jerusalem should remain in Jewish hands, some believe it belongs to some Arab entity. But what about an Armenian Free State eh p-)
