who wants to bet there will be several movies in the future about operations in afganistan, including the incident where the navy seal gunner fell off the back of a chinok picking up soldiers pined down in a firefight and he stormed the al quada nest that was shooting at the pinned down troops..
or the assasination attempt on the new president of afganistan...what other incidents would be cool movies?

Mazar-i-Sharif. I already said it in another thread and I think its already slated to be a movie

Takur Ghar (Navy SEAL falling out of Razor 03) I think will be the next one. The "plot" is very similar to that of Black Hawk Down. A bunch of elite US Special operators doing everything in their power to save another under the most intense gun battle since the last major deployment (in Somalia it was the most intense since Vietnam, now it's the most intense since Somalia).
Mind you, it was over 10 years since the conflict before they made the movie though. It'll probably be a while before we actually see something in theaters. I'm surprised that we've only seen one movie about desert storm in all this time, Three Kings. Unless someone can name some others...

Courage Under Fire(Denzel Washington, Meg Ryan, Matt Damon, and Lou Diamond Phillips) about a woman helo pilot nominated for the MOH and the investigation into her nomination.
Ah, that's right. My only dissapointment with that, is that the surround sound mix on the laserdisc version was truly incredible. The explosions and gunfire during the night scared the crap out of you during those scenes. The DVD that came out a couple of years back on the other hand sucks big time. There's almost no surround sound at all during the whole movie. They destroyed an incredible film...

Wasnt Mazar a longer battle than Takur Ghar?
Mazar was longer in terms of days, but it was really just our forces sitting on the edges shooting inward, and dropping bombs on it. Ghar on the otherhand was an amazing uphill battle by several different types of our forces against entrenched Al Qaeda in different positions.

One cant say that we'll see a mazarsharif/takurghar movie in 10 years, I beleive its up to the individual. If the person wanted those movies NOW he would do it and we'd perhaps see it in a few years. If I was that "rich" moviemaking dude I would do JUST that... hell, Id do a iraq/north korea movie even before the $hit hits the fan hehehhee

A movie based on Mazar e Sharif is already in the works....check one of the other topics on this site and you'll find some links regarding it.
Supposed to be released in the next 2 years....
The movie for BHD took so long because it is technically based on Mark Bowden's book - which wasn't released until 1999. That is why it took so long. Based on it's success, more movies regarding acts of heroism during wartime situations will come about much faster.

Exactly. Now that BHD was such a hit, expect a ****load more of those "type" of flicks. And most will be reptitive crap you wouldn't watch if you were on the Satellite of Love.

What would you guys want to see? I'd wanna see 1)War against Afghanistan/Takur Ghar 2)War on Iraq 3)Fictional war on NKorea 4)Any light infantry/SF units in modern day combat 4)CIA operatives working in foreign countries... All movies must be 99% action like BHD with no "love story" BS like pearl harbor

Yeah,Pearl Harbor was just sad, aimed at teeny-boppers with no real concept of historical facts. The badassitude of the actual attack simply can't prop up the sheer ****itude of the whole damn thing.
Anyways,I asked in another thread, but Ifigured I'd cover my bases:Has there ever been a movie about the Panamanian invasion/rescue of Kurt Muse?
GearGod
02-13-2003, 12:34 AM
from armyranger.com, did you say panama?
"President George Bush authorized the invasion of Panama by U.S. forces shortly after midnight on 20 December 1989 in an effort to capture General Manuel Antonio Noriega, the Panamanian dictator, and bring him back to the U.S. to face drug-smuggling charges. Among a vast number of other missions to be conducted throughout Panama on the morning of the invasion, OPLAN 90-2 directed "Task Force Red," the 75th Ranger Regiment, to conduct an airborne assault on the Omar Torrijos International Airport and Tocumen Military Airfield complex with the 1st Ranger Battalion and C Company of the 3rd Ranger Battalion...designated as Task Force Red-Tango...simultaneously with a jump by the remainder of the regiment against the Rio Hato base camp...designated as Task Force Red-Romeo"
DUDE! That was 1989!! Even BHD is considered an "old" movie... Rangers were using M16A2s! Would you rather see old historical movies or NEW modern day 21st century movies?

In the Army Now with Pauly Shore was about Desert Storm. It may not have been about actual events but it was still a good "army" movie notheless.

Tears of the Sun also seems to have a similar plot as BHD. A group of elite special operators go outside mission perameters to save a group of people against insane odds and the enemy forces largely outnumber the rescuers.

Mazar-i-Sharif would be a good one. Mike Spann, John Walker Lindh, SAS, Delta, SF, would be great stuff.
Takur Ghar also would be neat to see on the screen.
Hmm, maybe the Invasion of Panama or one about the first Gulf War would be nice.

No it wasn't, they were in Chad in a different time period.
Well, the next one coming up the soonest is probably Killing Pablo which is also by Mark Bowden.

I reckon a good movie idea would be special ops before the major assult in Afghanistan ,like have them go in a month before everyone else ,make them blend into the local population and get up to all kinds of covert stuff
plus they need 2 have a heaps good scene involving a AC-130 spectre.

Heh, sorry but he didnt survive the fall, and he was killed and dragged away when he fell to the ground, they never found his body.

U know what would be funny, if they used the cast and characters from Ultimate Farce for the SAS. But it wold turn out pretty crap though.
I hope that this film on Mazar-i-Sharif does have Brit's in it, and that if they do have them in it thay don't make em look like arseholes or desperate for US help like in Independence Day. I hate it when they do that.

Petty Officer 1st Class Neil C. Roberts
Navy SEAL awarded posthumous Bronze Star
From Jamie McIntyre, CNN Military Affairs Correspondent
The Navy has awarded a posthumous Bronze Star medal to the U.S. Navy SEAL who was killed by al Qaeda forces after he was knocked out of his helicopter in the opening phase of Operation Anaconda on March 3. The citation for Aviation Boatswain's Mate (Aircraft Handling) SEAL 1st Class Neal C. Roberts reads in part:
"On that evening, his unit was to conduct a clandestine insertion onto a 10,000-foot mountain peak to establish an overwatch position, for an indeterminate amount of time, protecting other U.S. forces participating in the operation.
As the helicopter moved into position for the insertion, Petty Officer Roberts positioned himself on the helicopter ramp in order to expeditiously exit the helicopter, minimizing the threat to the aircraft and crew.
Without notice, his MH-47 helicopter received three rocket-propelled grenades exploding through the body of the aircraft. "Hydraulic lines showered the metal ramp with slippery fluid as the aircraft lurched violently from the unexpected assault. "Petty Officer Roberts was thrown from the ramp of the helicopter, falling onto the al Qaeda-infested mountain top just feet below.
He immediately maneuvered to make contact with rescue forces and establish a defensive position but, surrounded by overwhelming enemy force with superior fire power, Petty Officer Roberts died on the battlefield from fatal combat wounds.
By his zealous initiative, courageous actions, and exceptional dedication to duty, Petty Officer Roberts reflected great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Navy.
The Combat Distinguishing Device is authorized."
He didn't die from the fall, he slipped from the hydraulic fluids leaking all over the place and fell a few feet. There is another article that covers the events better, if I find it, I'll post a link.

How about this one for a movie. Do one on the entire experince of the mystery dude called "jack" by any in the media. He suppossedly fought for CIA during Russian war in Afgh. He was also seemingly all over the place at every major hotspot in the country. He was mentioned in the book. "The Hunt for Bin Laden" which Im sure many of you have read. I I want ot know more about him!!! Also the A-team 555 "Triple Nickel" that linked up with Karzai and fought a last ditch battle agaisnt 500 Talibs sent to wipe out the town while the rest of the Muj wanted to run off. Capt. Amerine was a real hero. They stayed there and decided to fight to the death to protect the women and children from the Muslim horde who were going to rape, torture and kill these women and children for the sake of Allah. Team 555 ended up killing (and this is admitted by the Talib comander himself in inteviews) around 400 of the 500. The rest fled with their Korans stuck so far up thier asses they didnt need toilet paper for a week! Also, team 555 was the one nearly wiped out by a laser guided bomb which still hasnt been found out who was at fault. The movie could put blame on te B52 target specialist who fudged it or whatever. Anyway, team 555 would have alot going for it in a movie : Average Americans, there could be a short camio on each memeer childhood and why they joined etc.. plus lots of action and it would be linked to famous figures like Karzai!!

My son who is 8 got me Tears of the Sun for Dad's day so we could watch guy movies instead of all the chick flicks that my wife and daughter watch constantly. He digs Last of the Mohicans and BHDand Rorkes Drift. I'm not allowed to let him watch Full Metal Jacket. Heh.
Tears blows. He kept asking me why they didn't just "throw her on the helicopter?" Pretty much sums it up.
Yeah, I know these movies are violent and all but I'm trying to counteract the influence of Sleepless in Seattle and Bridget Jones Diary etc......

Becuase theyre a bunch of infidels thats why; some CNN dude said:
However, unequalled slaughter is only one element of this film's considerable insult. The most distasteful part is that it's being presented as an unflinching tribute to fallen heroes, rather than the realistically rendered game of "Doom" that it is. Forget the American military, this is more an homage to the visceral thrill of exploding arms, heads and legs.
I say it depends on the invidual and is ay itse the best war movie ive seen and hes just an infidel
