I don't think so.... looks like a 'normal' steel helmet, without Kevlarprotection - but i am not sure. But mostly, it seems, they uses these cool hats ;)

Elguapo, about the picture, i didn't find it on high res. I belive it doesn't belong to this operation, but to an old one. Have you already tried to e-mail the Army (maybe they have)?
About the helmets: I think the soldiers don't wear them because of the weather and the humidity, being the jungle hat more comfortable. Even though they are in a exercise, not in combat.

Sorry, to disagree with you Fulix, but I liked it!
I think it shows very well, the air ability of SpecOpBrig through the country and has the Special Operations and Command Battalion (Batalhão de Comandos) patches!
Some toughts too... why the heck we have no Army SF units here in São Paulo??!?!
I think our army should do like in U.S. about the Green Berets. Make groups of SF and spread to states of our country.... just a tought.
Cheers
Don't be "bairrista"! Elguapo isn't going to like it! :D
I don't think it is necessary to the country. São Paulo already has the 12ª Light Infantry Brigade (Air Assault), as member of the Quick Reaction Force!
The changing of the SpecOpBrig to Goiás was a ritgh decision of the Army. Now, they're in the center of the country (next to Brasília and Amazon forest - the 3ª Spec. Op. Co., will be kept in Manaus) and doesn't matter where it is, the Special Forces are expected to be deployied to anywhere inside the country within 24 hours.
And, don't forget if the Army is going to use the SF (and Paratroopers) to help the police against the organized crime in RJ, or anywhere else, that's not a good idea keep the soldiers living very close to the traffickers.
About your comparison to the US: what can be good to them, can't be good to us! (and I think that each US SF group has a region of the globe to act, not just inside the US).
What I know, inside each unit (or Brigade) of the army there is the Special Operations platoons (Pelopes), isn't there? They can deal with the situation until the arriving of the SF!!!
Abraços!!
I heard a lot about those guys, and I`ve been told they are second to no one in jungle recon.
That's the reason they are in the Army!! Who would be more used to live in the jungle?
There is an exchange of experience - the indians teaches the army about jungle survival: hunting, fishing, identify the eatable vegetable, recognizing trails on the land and the water. And the Army teaches them to fight in the modern war (almost of them are already warriors inside theirs tribes)!
BTW, do you still use those patrol boats?
http://img42.exs.cx/img42/2933/File1516.jpg
I took this pic about 10 years ago, so it might have changed already.
I made a research in the Navy's site and I found this patrol boat (P-10 PIRATINI) and others from the same class (also called Piratini) are still in the service!

I think they are still useful to the Navy! :)

Yes it show very well, but the drawing and colors and the drawins together are horrible...
Don't be "bairrista"!
Im not! Haha... come on, every body knows if have any type of "bairrismo" talking about military, it comes from Rio de Janeiro´s military people... every major and important unit is from Rio, and they rule the army... and that´s why (in my opinion) the army is in this ridiculous conditions nowadays... just a bunch of accomodated officers that dont leave their butt off the chair and do something about...
I don't think it is necessary to the country. São Paulo already has the 12ª Light Infantry Brigade (Air Assault), as member of the Quick Reaction Force!
Yes i know, and it´s great! But i want Special Forces... some day São Paulo will be the host of our army´s Devgru... ;) (no, im not a US "paga-pau", just said Devgru because of their type of unit in military temrs, and how the unit were born...)
The changing of the SpecOpBrig to Goiás was a ritgh decision of the Army. Now, they're in the center of the country (next to Brasília and Amazon forest - the 3ª Spec. Op. Yes, i agree with you. And before changing to Goiás, where they were based?! Rio de Janeiro!!! That´s what im talking about...
About your comparison to the US: what can be good to them, can't be good to us! (and I think that each US SF group has a region of the globe to act, not just inside the US).
Yes, Green Berets groups are responsible for determined regions in the globe... But what i trying to say, is that having more units spread out in our country, is easiest to find more qualified people that could fit in the SF needs, you know? Having more people to try the SF course, more the SF units will be tough and with the best of the best pro´s... and after all, i would realy like to join the SF if they got an unit based here in São Paulo.
Well, just have to find out another way to be in a SF unit: join the most impossible unit of São Paulo´s police, G.E.R. !!!
Well, i hope my toughts don´t offended any one of you... they are my opinion, that´s all.
Cheers to you all.

You're correct about the military units. It was another reason for the changing of the SpecOpBrig, decentralize the Army (even though for strategic reasons). I think another Brigade (the 2ª Infantry Mechanized - Motorizada - from Niteroi) is also changing to Amazon forest and becoming another Jungle Brigade.
Who may knows? One day, it can be possible.
(no, im not a US "paga-pau")
 I didn't want to say it.

I agree with you, but anyway the SF course, for what I know, is open to all soldiers (with some qualifications - like parachuting) from all regions of the country. I think your idea would be better to fit in an entire professional army. We don't reach it yet!
Well, just have to find out another way to be in a SF unit: join the most impossible unit of São Paulo´s police, G.E.R. !!!
Are you a police officer? Or intend to be one? And, why do you think it's almost impossible to join to GER?
Well, i hope my toughts don´t offended any one of you... they are my opinion, that´s all.

Yeah you are right, our army didn´t reach pro levels yet, and is not even close of it... i was just putting "o carro na frente dos bois" rofl
Are you a police officer?
I am not a police officer.
Or intend to be one?
Some day? Yes, but before i finish college and have all the info needed to the in a elite unit (it´s sounds a bit cocky, but you know... who doesn´t want to be the best?).
And, why do you think it's almost impossible to join to GER?
Well, as far as i know G.E.R. have it´s likeness with Devgru in terms how it was born. Both were born by a already distinguished profesional, that decided to give born of a new unit. So, the G.E.R. have a small number of police officers (18 personel, with 5 Blazers - one of them armored Level III with turbo and reinforced suspenssions - a Silverado and a Sprinter...) that already were very destinguished in their earlier units (like G.A.R.R.A. and D.A.S.)... so there is a "panelinha" i belive, so is realy difficult to enter (is not an open path... have no open courses to join, you what i mean?), and if you are not indicated by them... you have not a chance.
I can be very wrong, but... this is as far as i know. I will try to contact Cássio Cardosi from G.E.R., to clarufy some doubts... ;)
Not at all!! We are here because the exchange of ideas and experiences, aren't we?

I just asked because I was aproved in the last test to the São Paulo Civil Police (Delegado de Polícia)!!! woot woot :D
I'm going to receive my rank the next week (tomar posse do cargo) and after take class in the Police Academy for the next six months.
If you want I can tell you all the information you need in these coming months. I understand your desire for being in GER, as all other special units (GOE, GARRA, Operações Especiais do DENARC), it has an strong appeal, with the gear, equipment, missions they do.
I'm going to work wherever I'm told to do it (doesn't matter if in a special or "common" unit). I think the whole police work is special itself!!
And, why do you think it's almost impossible to join to GER?

You know a lot of GER's details!! Specially when we're talking about a low profile unit - it's not very common see them on the streets or even on the media. GOE's or GARRA's vehicles are more common.
What I know is the specials units called those who they think are the right people to their service. Thinking well, we may call it "panelinha" anyways.
I will try to contact Cássio Cardosi from G.E.R., to clarufy some doubts... ;)
Is he a balding, huge guy (I think he is a jiu jitsu worldchampioship)?
If so, I saw him twice:
One, at the tv show of "Otávio Mesquita" about GER;
Second, he talked to me and another candidates before my oral test. He seemed a nice guy! Finally, I think he is shooting teacher at Acadepol, isn't he?
Are you a friend of him?
Small world! :D

Gostaria sim que você me enviasse as infos! valeuuzzz!!

Also: Do you know anyone who organizes 2-3 day trekking excursions on the Amazonía?

If you're going to be here in september, on 7th (our independence day) you'll be able to see the military parade!
Here in Sao Paulo (at the city) there is no military museum. In Rio de Janeiro there are several, because more troops are stationed there. But, there is an interesting museum also related with our Independence, called "Museu Paulista" where you can see some military antiquities. Browser this website (no english version): www.mp.usp.br.
Check also this one, in english: http://www.embratur.gov.br/en/home/index.asp. It is the official tourism portal.
I hope it helps! Enjoy your trip!! :D
edit: "Museu Paulista" is more common known as "Museu do Ipiranga".
