When the F-117 program did an intensive scientific study to find the ultimate camouflage color/pattern for the stealth fighter, the engineers determined that a shade of pink was the best color. The Air Force balked at the idea, no self-respecting fighter pilot flies a pink airplane. If the Marines are really serious about their airplanes.......

Wasn't really pink but many pastel colors (light blue, biegh, off-white, etc.) in a somewhat familiar camo pattern ;)

Well, apparently the reason why the land rovers used by the SAS in the desert were called "pinkies" is because the best camo scheme for the landies was to paint them a shade of pink.

I don't have any experience in this matter but apparently a landie/vehicle painted the right shade of pink is extremely dificult to find in the desert, obviously from range or the air.

From what i've read, the reason this was found out is that a number of vehicles were deployed on exercise fresh from the factory before they could be painted and the fresh factory colour happened to be pink. Apparently a patrol asked a covering fighter to use them as their mark (or something like that) and the fighter couldn't actually find them.

I don't know if the above story is true but i'm pretty sure that where the whole pinkie thing came from.

It's only what i've read so maybe other, more qualified members here can confirm or correct me.

Nice paint job on the fighter though, sorry to egt off topic.

Depite being ugly, the odd shapes and colors tend to make the object harder to identify. It reminds me of the camo on some WWII and WWI ships.
