Well, there are many different war movies out there. The question is, what do you think works better. A more instrumental theme such as Oxygene by Jean Michel Jarre (Gallipoli), Adagio for Strings by Samuel Barber (Platoon) or songs from the era. Such as This is the end by the Doors or Paint it black by the Rolling Stones?
What do you think works better? Creates a more of a poignant atmosphere or scene?

Ehhh, im more into instrumental stuff, Hans Zimmer is the man, he did all the good instrumental music, The Rock, BHD, Con Air, Troy, i love dramatic instrumental music like that
I picked instrumental. Say there is an Iraq war movie. With music of the times, there will be dudes fighting insurgents to the music of some goon like Avril Lavigne, or G-unit, or some sort of hippity hop music, or like blink 182.

Anything fiting* to things happening on screen...fiting isn't best word because it is sometimes contrast or other figure, but I hope you got idea... I just don't like pathetic instrumentals when someone dies or does something heroic.... I also like when instruments are synchronised with weapons and speed of the cuts... Something known from chronicals of pre TV era showed in cinemas...

i think they need a new movie based on current world problems. i know it will break all hell loose, but it would be interesting. they should show a battalion of rangers assaulting grenada playing "Singled Out" by Diecast, it would be teh uberez shiet!!!1

Never heard the song, i might download it later, they could have American Soldier by Tobey Keith played in about a zillion different situations
I adore instrumental music in war movies, it's very powerful. Although I loved the song The Rescue Blues in Behind Enemy Lines, sung by Ryan Adams I believe :)

Music in war movies is interesting; I think it almost glamorizes death.
"Hey dude, when you get shot, a bunch of violins will go off followed by Enya's monotone Irish wails" - gunt 1
"What no cannibal corpse?" – grunt 2

Enya!!, they'd shoot themselves for that, and personaly Pantera would be a good choice

Last time I went to see Pantera was 1996 @ Newcastle. We crashed our ride to the gig and rode off the car. Managing to find a bus to the venue the gig kicked off with a 30min non-vocals jam because the mics went down.
That was a f*cking **** night.

i chose rock, personally theres nothing like hearing ac/dc riding into combat. plus the coolest thing ive ever seen was in iraq the first go round, we moved into an area to do some demo on some iraqi sites.there were some m1 tanks sittin around pulling security playing black sabbath "war pigs" over a loud speaker with burning tanks , vehicles and dead bodies laying around.gave me goose bumbs.

*****sburg, Glory, and Saving Private Ryan have pretty good tracks. Oh yeah, the theme to A Bridge Too Far always gets stuck in my head.

it all depends i think...if there is going to be reaction to the music...i more then likely should be from that time...like dancing or singing along....although a knights tail had all modern music and it was a really good fit...one of the best matches for music to visual i can think of personaly

I downloaded Singled Out- its ok, reminds me something of Slipknot, at least the drums for some reason, but yeah, showing Rangers tearing somebody up and laying waste to an airport during that song would be pimp

I picked music of the era, only really if it is Vietnam though. Movies like Good Morning Vietnam, Full Metal Jacket use the music of the era well. Platoon also has some but it is overshadowed by the instrumental which works well throught the movie, especially in the end. I think that instrumental wouldn't have worked in FMJ, and that the soundtrack is great. Also, if you consider it a 'war movie', Forrest Gump has one of the best soundtracks ever. p-)

True, True, the music from FMJ was priceless, so many good songs, the same goes for Forest Gump as well

Instrumental is good for films on World War 1 and 2. But music of the era is best for Vietnam and after.
