View Full Version : What weaponry did the CCF/PVA carry in Korea?
I was wondering what types of weapons did the Chinese Communist Forces (a.k.a. People's Volunteer Army) use in Korea. From what I heard, it may have been a real eclectic collection.

Check out that link, has info on the weapons used by both sides. They also have some good maps and articles about campaigns.
Everything and the kitchen sink.

interestingly South Korean Volunteers in June 1950 were pictured with Arisakas before the retreat to Pusan, so bothe sides had varying small arms early on.

The first wave of men entered Korea with captured Japanese and Nationalist weapons. Arisaka rifles, Chinese produced Czech Zb.26 light machine guns, Type-24 Maxims. Captured American war aids such as M1 carbine and Thompson, M3 submachine guns, along with Canadian war weapons such as the sten. Support weapons include 60 and 81mm mortars of Chinese manufacture. A small number of Soviet 120mm mortars, 45mm anti-tank guns and 70mm Japanese battalion guns. Plus some Chinese made 102mm artillery rockets. Basically small arms were in several calibers and very few artillery were available.
The second wave which made the 1951 Spring Offensive were far better armed. They were thoroughly Soviet in equipment. Mosin-Nagant, DP light machine gun, PPSh-41, PPS-43, and large numbers of Soviet artillery of all types. The only exception to the Soviet standard was Chinese copies of American 57mm and 75mm recoilless rifles and the 90mm Super Bazooka, as the Soviets did not have very good portable anti-tank weapons.
