Is there a statute of limitations on desertion? 40 years seems a bit extreme.

Of all places, why desert to NORKOR?

In Support of Charles Robert Jenkins (http://www.charlesrobertjenkins.org/)

Members of his family made this.

If it was just desertion, I'd be split. Yeah, give him punishment but maybe make it a light sentence.

However, this guy helped the N. Koreans by starring in propaganda films and the like. Tough luck for him. Throw the book at his ass.

And we are still at war.

But the "desertion" part may not have been a real desertion. Some Americans reportedly ended up in Moscow to be never heard from. It's no wonder he might have decided to play ball with N.Koreans.

He should still be tried as a deserter.

Since N. Korea is technically still at war the US, he should be shot as all deserters should be.

Could be. What I read, he was leading a 5 man patrol along the DMZ when he took off under his own guise. If that is the true story, then punishment should be severe.

What would make someone do that? To N.Korea . . .

I hope that the US gets ahold of him and he is put in prison to roth there until he dies. he's old enough, so he'll probably die pretty quickly. Not too much of an expense to our taxpayers :) but seriously, desertion and cowardice, giving aid and comfort to the enemy....they are all very serious charges which he is very obviously guilty of and should be punished to the full extent of the law...By not punishing him we would be sending a message that it is ok to walk away from your unit and help the enemy. he must be punsished to the full extent of the law to send the right message, especially during a time of war which divides the country
