United Nations: The Organisation of Islamic Countries (OIC), a grouping of 57 Islamic countries, has appointed a special envoy on Jammu and Kashmir, a move seen as part of Pakistan’s efforts to internationalise the issue.
The OIC made the announcement after a meeting of its Contact Group on Kashmir at the United Nations headquarters.
The appointment of Abdullah Bin Adbul Rahman Al Bakr, a Saudi national, as the special OIC envoy on Jammu and Kashmir was welcomed by Hurriyat chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who also held a series of meetings with the leaders of the Muslim countries raising the issue of alleged violations of human rights in Kashmir.
The Mirwaiz said the appointment would help resolve the Kashmir issue according to the “aspirations” of the Kashmiri people.
The Contact Group on Kashmir was addressed by Foreign Ministers of Pakistan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Niger.

India's policy of appeasing the Islamic nations has been a total failure. Since Independence India has tried very hard to be on the good books of these nations due to its relationship with Pakistan and also due to internal political compulsions vis a vis the large Muslim minority in India. India used to champion the rights of the Palestinians at the cost of relations with Israel. But that is the past and now Indians have realized their mistake and know who their real friends are. Strangely the one Islamic nation that has through time supported India is Iran but that could be due to its not so rosy relationship with Sunni majority Pakistan.
And now the OIC have appointed a special envoy on Kashmir. Just a reminder to the Indians how screwed their policy of appeasing Islamic nations was. They will not be our friends no matter what we do to appease them.
Just a little surprised that the Turkish foreign minister decided to address the Contact Group on Kashmir which had among its participants members of some separatist leaders from Kashmir and Kashmiri diaspora. Being a secular nation and having its own Kurdish problem, Indians had expected better from Turkey. But I guess its tit for tat for India's stand on Cyprus.
