sorry about the topic name...I was fishing...looking for comments from a certain few..but alas..it is not to be! People who bad mouth the US and then say why won't they (the US) do something, just makes me want to scream..I know,I know..let it ride..I try..but when you read the **** these people write it just makes me cringe..you nay sayers should try going to one of these messed up countries for yourselves..seeing it first hand would do you some good..I've been to Iraq..Bosnia too..I guess we should just let their messed up leaders kill off as many people as they want..but in the end that would be our fault as well.A no win situation.Again sorry for the topic title.

There's a really powerful article in the latest "Rolling Stone" magazine (August 7 - Angelina Jolie on the cover). It's entitled "Cannibalism & Chaos: Inside the World of Liberia's Child Soldiers." It's graphic and gruesome, but it sheds some light on the problem over there and actually interviews member's of Liberia's "security force." That country is wrapped up in problems.

pakrat i agree, its so ****ing annoying when we go into countries like iraq and somalia to help the people there that are in opression and terany, starvation, and genocide and all these horrible conditions, we go in and help, not harm, but after we do the hard work, they have anti-american protests to get us to leave their country, without so much as a ****ing thank you...if i was president, our military would defend our borders, our country, from illegal imagration, and threats like n korea, id let the rest of world solve there own problems, they ALWAYS blame US for THEIR own ****ing PROBLEMS so i say why dont we just sit back and let the rest of the third world crumble.

Not that I think I am an American basher, though many here might disagree...

I think if America wants to go in they should if not then they don't have to.

The leader of a country has asked for their help. If they want to help they can. If they don't, well they are not obliged to help anyone and everyone so they don't have to.

This is rather different to them deciding by themselves to invade Iraq or Afghanistan and removing the respcetive leaderships.

no lets sit this one out....give it to the EU...we don't want to be imperialists.

Yeah we sit it out...and then they can argue in the future...well, if the U.S. is so noble...why didn't they help this country and that country and so on...

Then if we do help...it's all play out in the end as typical "American Imperialism."

"This is rather different to them deciding by themselves to invade Iraq or Afghanistan and removing the respective leaderships."

Said it once, I'll say it again...Yeah, it's a shame those wonderful leader who were practically Saint (or Islamic equivalent) had to be remove. p-)

Guess what? Even the Guardian disagrees with you. (http://www.guardian.co.uk/Iraq/Story/0,2763,999751,00.html) But if you think it might be a typo, CBS also ran a poll. (http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2003/06/20/iraq/main559521.shtml)

BBC Chief Blasts US Media's
Biased War Coverage
By Merissa Marr
4-25-3

LONDON (*******) - U.S. broadcasters' coverage of the Iraq war was so unquestioningly patriotic and so lacking in impartiality that it threatened the credibility of America's electronic media, the head of the BBC said on Thursday.

"Personally, I was shocked while in the United States by how unquestioning the broadcast news media was during this war," Greg Dyke said in a speech at a University of London conference.

"If Iraq proved anything, it was that the BBC cannot afford to mix patriotism and journalism. This is happening in the United States and if it continues, will undermine the credibility of the U.S. electronic news media."

Dyke singled out Fox News, the most popular U.S. cable news network during the conflict, for its "gung-ho patriotism," saying: "We are still surprised when we see Fox News with such a committed political position."

A spokesman for Fox News declined comment.

The British media veteran also attacked U.S. radio broadcaster Clear Channel and warned against British media becoming "Americanized."

Dyke said, "For the health of our democracy, it's vital we don't follow the path of many American networks."

U.S. broadcasters came under attack for "cheerleading" during the Iraq conflict, with what some critics saw as gung-ho reporting and flag-waving patriotism. In one example, a U.S. network described U.S. soldiers as "heroes" and "liberators."

Dyke suggested the problem stemmed from the recent fragmentation of media, with no single network having the clout to stand up to the U.S. government. "This is particularly so since Sept. 11 when many U.S. networks wrapped themselves in the American flag and swapped impartiality for patriotism," Dyke said.

Mortimer - are you nuts??

Have you been to IRAQ? Have you been serving there?
Have you spoke to any IRaqis? - I have.

The iraqi's don't want us there? Why because in the areas around and north of Baghdad that are populated with clansman of the formner ruling party are terrified that if the loose power they will be persecuted in turn, and are bitter/angry at the us of loosing that power...THAT means all the IRaqi's want the US out and are not thankful for what was done?

You are an idiot and a fool that is a rpoduct of the propoganda that you claim everyone counter to your beliefs have fallen under. You will use any words any beliefs, any facts from any source inorder to further your complaints against the US policy.

Standing against US policy I have no complaint of; but using false statements / inaacurate statements is plain ridiculous.

ibstolidude, you must realize the trend by now. If we do not buy the concept of "American Imperialism," or completely disagree with the actions of the U.S. government, then we're nothing more than mindless ignorance drone to the government.

And if we do not agree with Mortimer signature, then we lack any knowledge whatsoever of politics and we're just stupid.
