Although the M1 carbine looks a littlebit worn, it was totally unnecessary to destroy it.
Could have sold it abroad atleast, that would give them some money instead of paying to scrap it.

Getting tired of those symbolic arms destruction, Beuarkk, war is bad, bueark firamrs are evil.
The funny thing is that when we develop less lethal means, they consider that even more evil, legitimisation of war and so on.

Japanese and Chinese lawyers visited a dozen victims of Japanese chemical weapons over the weekend in Northeast China, collecting evidence to prepare a lawsuit against the Japanese Government by 43 victims of the toxic weapons, according to Monday's China Daily.

A leak killed one person and injured 43 people when barrels of mustard gas were dug up at a construction site in Qiqihar last August.

The toxic weapons were abandoned by the Japanese invading troops during World War II.

The victims decided to sue the Japanese Government last October.

One of the victims is named Ding Shuwen, a construction worker who suffered skin injuries to his thighs and feet that have left him unable to walk, according to Su Xiangxiang, one of the Chinese lawyers.

Although Ding had an operation, he still will have to pay for skin transplant surgery, Su said.

The victims are asking for compensation from the Japanese Government and a public apology, he added.

The lawyers, including four Japanese and two Chinese, arrived in Qiqihar on Saturday and left last night, Su said.

It is the first step of collecting evidence for the case. Another set of attorneys will travel to Qiqihar in two weeks, he said, adding that the case may be tried in Japan within the year.

More and more Japanese lawyers are speaking for Chinese victims, one of the Japanese lawyers told CCTV.

Only with this kind of support will Japan win the respect of the Asian public, he said.

The lawyers belong to a group of more than 300 Japanese lawyers offering free legal assistance to Chinese victims since 1995, Su told CCTV.

Some of the lawyers have been to Heilongjiang Province to collect proof that Japanese chemical weapons are harming Chinese citizens.

During the war, Qiqihar was the base camp of the Japanese army's "Unit 516." Unlike the notorious "Unit 731" which was engaged in germ warfare research, "Unit 516" specialized in biochemical weapons.

In the latest clean-up efforts that ended on Thursday, experts from China and Japan found a total of 542 chemical bombs in Qiqihar.

The chemical weapons were discovered by a local farmer named Dong Liyan on May 23 near his house in the city's Ang'angxi district, where a Japanese airport was located and a deployment regiment stationed during World War II.

Getting tired of those symbolic arms destruction, Beuarkk, war is bad, bueark firamrs are evil.
The funny thing is that when we develop less lethal means, they consider that even more evil, legitimisation of war and so on.

I dunno, I cringe when seeing guns destroyed. Sell them or give them away, they're not worthless.

Agreed about "less lethal means" too. If you make war easy, it will be easier for tyrants to start one.

And easier to oppress the tax slaves.

There a thread a ways back about the Soviets using the Bomb Dogs against German Panzers ...

http://wtv-zone.com/Hahnsflyboys/rogue/antitank16.jpg
Two Russian Anti Tank "Suicide" Dogs On The German Front

The Russian military also trained suicide dogs, during WW II. The dogs (half staved) were loaded with explosives, and trained to seek out food under moving tanks; a trigger device attached to their backpacks, would depressed causing an explosion capable of cutting through the steel under belly of the tanks.

In one day, alone, on the Izyum sector, these canine tank busters destroyed nine tanks and two armored cars. So feared by the Germans, that as soon as they heard the barking and saw the running dogs, they would frantically turned their tanks around and head back towards their own lines, for they knew from experience what was in store for them.

Caption:

A soviet dog mine in training, or so it would appear. What is interesting about this picture is that although the training tank does not have a real gun, its turret appears to be that of the T-34/85. The T-34/85 was not introduced until 1944, yet dog mines were supposed to have been withdrawn in 1942!

Dog Anti-Tank Mine

The simplicity of the dog mine must have been appealing concept in 1942 when the Russian army was still hard pressed fighting to keep the German invaders in check. The basic idea was that the dog carried on it's back a wooden box or packets containing explosives strapped on with a harness. The dogs were then trained to run underneath enemy tanks and in doing so they would tip back a vertical wooden lever on their backs, which would detonate the explosives, much to the surprise of the German tank crews and the dogs.

This however, was one simple idea that did not work terribly effectively in combat. As the dogs were trained by placing food under Soviet tanks they would run to the familiar smells and sounds of any Soviet tanks in battle rather than the strange smells and sounds of the German tanks, and with hindsight, one would also expect that in battle a dog would run anywhere but towards a moving tank firing overhead, and in doing so become a menace to everyone else on the battlefield.

The German army quickly learned of the Soviet hundminen and so spread throughout the ranks information that all Russian dogs likely to be encountered were probably rabid and so should be shot on sight. As a result all dogs virtually disappeared from the Eastern Front in the ensuing few days, making the use of dog mines all the less feasible.

Dog mines did have some success, but once their dangerous drawbacks were realised they were not used after 1942. Some reports on the Soviet Army after 1945 still contained references to dog mines however, and there were also reports of dog mines as having been used by the Viet Minh (fighting in Indo-China) in the late 1940s.

Actually still in modern times the russians trained bombdog. Ihad once abig book about the sovier forces.
They had a big dog school and there were an kamikaze dog unit.

But the difference this time was that the dog himself "pushed the button". He had some stick reaching his mouth. The dogs were trained to bite the stick and then the bomb took off.

In 1986, while an international affairs fellow of the Council on Foreign Relations, she served as Special Assistant to the Director of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Not as crazy as Japanese Kamikaze. "The human cruise missile" ?!!
As I know, they also had human torpedo at that time.

Germans used "human torpedo's" they werent strapped to the torpedo's, but another propeller ontop of it, they generally waited around the entrance to ports and rivers in reeds or similar, got within ~50ft, then released the torpedo, although it was common for the torpedo not to detatch (so the piolet flew with it into the ship). This was mainly done by German prisoners (deserters and such).

The Eagle Has Landed has a little on them (the book is better then the movie IMO)

Don't rely on the story's representation ...
