Dear All,
This may be a slightly tangential post for this thread but for those like me who occasionally look at old battle maps or war diaries and want to compare them to the current terrain via Google earth or modern maps I have just found a geographic translator tool on the web from NGA. If you go to http://earth-info.nga.mil/GandG/geotrans/ you will see the tool.
You can then convert those old grid references and plug them into Google Earth's search feature or a GPS.
Sorry, this is not everybody's idea of excitement but this tool really helped me out with a project I was doing.
Apologies if this has been posted before or if it is so obvious that I am showing my ignorance but I thought it was cool and wanted to pass it on.
I hope that it is of help to some folks out there.
