These stories are nothing new. SIS/MI5 have files on just about everyone who is in a position where they could (if they wanted to) harm the UK from within.
Harold Wilson himself (a former British PM) was thoroughly investigated by the Secret Service.
Because they were investigated does not mean they actually were communist agents!
It might interest some people to know that the Royal Navy was actually standing-by to wipe out several North-East towns with gunfire in 1917, as it was believed there was a danger of the Bolshevik Revolution spreading to certain parts of the UK.

Kind of ironic that institutions thoroughly penetrated by Moscow even bothered keeping dossiers on anyone else.

Perfect for great britain, as they allready know extensive beer drinking and extended midday breaks

Harold Wilson himself (a former British PM) was thoroughly investigated by the Secret Service. There were attempts by Cecil Harmsworth King (media mogul) to influence former senior MI5 officers with still warm connections to the service to smear Wilson. In some ways they succeeded as J J Angleton of the CIA firmly believed Wilson was an enemy agent, apparently King had a long personnel grudge against Wilson. As it stands there is no real proof that Wilson was a spy or is there any evidence that MI5 were plotting against Wilson.

Nah, it's a compulsive disorder with them, always kept an eye on each other too.

Jack Jones - KGB agent = traitor
Worth remembering - seeing as the unions seem to be stirring again!

Since it was Gordievsky that named Jack Jones as a KGB agent I would cast doubts on the accusation, after he was reamed by MI6 he got a bit creative with the truth and performed like some fairground palm reader. During the Conservatives tenure Gordievsky was wheeled out before every election as an expert witness to give testimony in the Times and the Daily Mail on the evil left and their dark alliances with Communism. He wrote or said very little about the Oxbridge set who seem to have gave most of the post war secrets away. When his fame finally faded he had to be a complete drama queen when he fell ill and claimed he was poisoned by his former colleagues. Jack Jones cranky hard left unionist but an unlikely spy another smear victim was Michael Foot who Gordievsky claimed was a senior Soviet spy of some influence and power.

Given what he went through for SIS/the UK I'd cut him a bit of slack personally...

He did allright outing Bettany though. Why the hell the vetters didn't do the job for him is another question.

If he wasn't working for them (he certainly wasn't working for us) - who was he working for p-)

IIRC Gordievsky was not the only source in relation to Jack Jones and the money he was getting from the Russians as payment for his systematic efforts to destroy the UK economy.
I'm old enough to remember the damage that Jones and his 'comrades' did to the UK in the 70s.
Hanging was too good for them IMHO.

Given what he went through for SIS/the UK I'd cut him a bit of slack personally...I am cool with what he did for the SIS but he did himself a great dishonour by letting the media moguls trot him out every election to spin yarns and make vague and unsubstantiated references to Labour party members being in league with the USSR. I believe Mr Foot got a large out of court settlement from the Sunday Times for accusations made by Gordievsky.
He did all right outing Bettany though. Why the hell the vetters didn't do the job for him is another question. After Bettany’s alcoholic antics and admiration of Hitler and the Soviets (how odd) I had grave misgivings on the recruitment process of MI5.
If he wasn't working for them (he certainly wasn't working for us) - who was he working for p-)Michael Foot caused disharmony within the Labour party but I would have trouble putting a finger on anything traitorous, he was a vocal supporter of CND but hey so was I at the time. I think old Foot is a long way behind Thatcher and Blair when it comes to f*cking up the UK league table.

Hanging was too good for them IMHO.I have only ever found two sources alleging Jack Jones was a Soviet agent one was Gordievsky and the other was Christopher Andrew who its turns out admitted his information came from Gordievsky. Any other sources would be much appreciated. :)

Just because it was Gordievsky pointing the finger it doesn't automatically mean the allegation about Jack Jones is false.
I judge people by their actions and Jones' actions (along with a load of other trade unionists of the time) point towards him being a traitor.
