View Full Version : Info wanted on the Battle of Yultong Bridge, Korea 1951.
I came across a wikipedia article about the Battle of Yultong Bridge during the 1951 Great Spring Offensive. Unfortunately, the article didn't say anything other than it was a decisive victory for the Philippino UN contingent. Could someone fill me in on the details?

Actually, I was hoping for details of the battle itself. Though the info you provided here is still interesting, nonetheless. Thanks.

It was a small battle so I doubt you will find much about it. Your best bet may be to contact the Phillipine military (if they have a web site, ask the question, or inquiry as to who to ask). Its the only route I can think of. Depends how important it is to you. As a relative they may be inclined to help you find the history you are looking for.

I checked on the Korean internet and while it's mentioned often enough, there weren't a whole lot of details. This is what I was able to piece together from different sources:
The Battle of Yultong was the largest battle that Philippine troops participated in during the Korean War and is widely known as their bravest stand during the conflict.
The battle took place 5 kilometers north of Yeoncheon amid the Chinese Spring Offensive. Every single Filipino, including cooks and drivers, took up weapons to fight even though they were outnumbered 17 to 1. They successfully held off the Chinese, allowing the retreat of friendly forces, and they held their position until they were given the order for their own retreat.
I did not know this until I was looking up this battle but it seems the Filippino 10th Battalion participated in the mission to rescue the ill-fated Gloucester Regiment.

I came across several links, and I made some alterations to the wikipedia article, including the aformentioned links. Here it is. Does anyone know if I was successful in getting it right?

I am no expert, but the article looked pretty decent to me. Not to mention it was rather interesting.
Does anyone know how many Filipino troops took part in the battle? Also, who was the Chinese commander(s)?
