But where will the troops and Marines come from? Does this mean units will have less than a year to turn around and deploy again?

How about Iraq, where Obama has promised to withdraw from at a pace of 1 to 2 brigades a month that would remove them in 16 months. That would be the summer of 2010.

Does that matter when Obama has promised to pull troops out of Iraq? I think those questions you should be asking him.

Yah 40,000 U.S. troops would take alot of pressure off other NATO countries like Canada and Great Britian. We would be able to do our mission more efficiently. We would be able to train the ANP and ANA much better. Mainly we have to show the afghans what we are there for and that is their Freedom, Rights and security. We have to build schools infastructure and create jobs for these people while allowing them to follow there customs and traditions.

We don't need to build anything.
Why not allow Afghans to build thier own infrastructure as a means to mitigate the 40% unemployment in that country.

40,000 more troops combined with the overhaul of strategy in Afghanistan could go a long way. But the army is strained, there is still over 120,000 troops in Iraq, we should remember that.
This is an interesting NPR report on the subject.

John Nagl, a former lieutenant colonel in the Army and president of the Center for a New American Security, speaks with Steve Inskeep about the status of U.S. forces. Nagl says the military is already under strain as the president weighs whether to send more troops to Afghanistan.
