Ok. Just curious, you were a member of a Palladin cannon crew?

It was actually the M-109A2. The Paladins did not come into service in large numbers until 1994. By then I was 101st airborne/air assualt.

Thanks man. Desert Storm must have been an incredible experience. Unlike OIF and OEF multiple generations of troops didn't get a crack at it. Either you were there or you weren't. Much respect. Gives me the creeps though. I look at your pics, and its all so recent, but yet so far in the past at the same time. I'm gonna blink and I'll be posting my OIF pics for guys much younger than me and answering questions just like you. I'm too young to be a vet, dammit!

Yeah, I was 2nd armored div(fwd) We were a very small division so they attached us to the 1st infantry division as their third brigade. Here is some good info I found.

On Aug. 2, 1990, Iraq invaded Kuwait. This act precipitated U.S. military involvement in the Persian Gulf. The 1st Inf. Div. was put on alert for deployment on Nov. 8, 1990. The division deployed over 12,000 soldiers and 7,000 pieces of equipment to Saudi Arabia over the next two months. On the morning of Feb. 24, 1991, under Maj. Gen. Thomas G. Rhame, the Big Red One spearheaded the armored attack into Iraq, leading the way for the VII Corps. The Division smashed into the Iraqi 26th Inf. Div. by breaking through the enemy lines and taking over 2,500 prisoners. At 8 a.m., Feb. 28, 1991, the war was over when a cease-fire was called. The Big Red One had fought through 260 kilometers of enemy-held territory in 100 hours, destroying 550 enemy tanks, 480 armored, personnel carriers and taking 11,400 prisoners. Eighteen of the Divisions soldiers were killed in the war.

Awesome photos.

The photo of 73 easting really brings it home though, after reading up about it, hearing the name a lot, to see the photo and it actually registering that it was armor against armor made me go wow.

Infantry combat is crazy enough, but armor against armor in the open desert, I would've crapped my pants.
