One killed, at least 20 hurt in south Tel Aviv terror attack
By Roni Singer and Yair Ettinger, Haaretz Correspondents, Haaretz Service and Agencies
A woman was killed and at least 20 other people were wounded when a bomb exploded at around 7 A.M. Sunday on Har Zion Street in Tel Aviv, close to the central bus station.
The bombing was the first in Israel since March, when two suicide bombers slipped out of the Gaza Strip and killed 10 Israelis in the southern port of Ashdod.
Five of the wounded sustained moderate-to-serious injuries.
Israel Radio reported that the Al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades - the armed branch of Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat's Fatah movement - claimed responsibility for the attack, saying the bombing avenged "assassinations" of two top Brigades commanders and the killings of other Palestinians in IDF incursions in Gaza and the West Bank this year.
Following the attack, police closed off a large section of the street - a main thoroughfare in the city - and scoured the area for additional devices. Several Palestinians in the area who lack authorization to be in Israel were briefly detained.
"I heard a massive explosion and ran to the scene," said Hagit Cohen who lives one street away from the blast. "I thought it was the end of the world."
Shutters on the building adjacent to the blast were torn off and windows in shops, homes and a bus shattered over the sidewalk and street.
Tel Aviv police chief Yossi Sedbon told Army Radio that evidence suggested Palestinian militants planted the device, which went off during morning rush hour.
"This was not a suicide bomber but a device planted next to the bus station in a bunch of weeds," Sedbon told Israel Radio.
A police spokesman said that the device was apparently planted in bushes adjacent to a bus stop, and was detonated as the bus approached.
The spokesman added that the bushes absorbed some of the blast and prevented the tightly-packed metal pieces, designed to maximize the impact of the bomb, from causing greater injury.
It is still unclear how the bomb was detonated.
Some of the passengers aboard the bus, which was on the Tel Aviv-Bat Yam route, were among the wounded.
Eyewitness Shlomi Ben-Amo told Israel Radio, "I was driving to work when I heard the boom. A female soldier flew in the air. There was hysteria and everything flew into the air."
Magen David Adom emergency services said most of the injured were only slightly wounded. Four people have been evacuated to Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv, five to the Wolfson Medical Center in Holon and three to the Tel Hashomer Medical Center in Ramat Gan.
According to one of the passengers aboard the bus, 25-year-old Yarden Brihon from Bat Yam, the force of the blast knocked several people to the floor.
"I saw a pregnant woman fall over; she was hurt," added Brihon. "The driver opened the doors and everyone managed to get off the bus. The blast happened a second after we pulled into the bus station."
Deputy Defense Minister Ze'ev Boim said that it was likely that Palestinians who planted the bomb slipped into Israel from the West Bank in places where the separation fence has yet to be constructed.
"Following the World Court decision the attack is not so ironic as it was likely. The attack is proof of what we knew all along, that the high motivation of the Palestinian militants has not diminished," Boim told Army Radio.
The last terror attack in Tel Aviv was in April 2003, when a British Muslim carried out a suicide attack on a beachfront pub, killing three people and wounding dozens. In January last year, 23 people died in a double suicide attack just meters from the location of Sunday's blast.

First why did you have to make 4 identical threads about this?
Second as it has been said before violence feeds violence. It`s never right, but this happens from both sides.Yesterday a 16 years old Palestinian girl was killed in Rafah-both deaths are equally tragic in my opinion.

A)Becuase Forum has mistakes , and it makes multiply posts .
B)Because we can always count on your kind and Hague court - to make our lifes "nice" . It came from the part without a fence .
C) It was made after some ease ups on restrictions made by IDF troops on checkpoints , to make life easier for Palestinians . So your "violence VS violence " bull**** goes right back at your ass .
D)If you want to make thread about this girl , made it . There is no point at all to mention her here . She got my RIP . Where is ours ? Familiar with something called tact ?

So your "violence VS violence " bull**** goes right back at your ass .
well, for many people its not BS. People not from Israel, who watching this conflict only in TV, see Jews and Palestinians who killing eachother(most of people dont care -why?who?etc.). So, comments like "violence vs violence" is very popular(because its simple)....IMO this damn conflict will never end.....many innocent people will die in future....

My pardon,I thought this forum was about discussing.I will refrain myself from commenting on the situation if all this thread is about is manifesting your condoleances and I`ve already said her death is a tragedy.
B)Because we can always count on your kind and Hague court - to make our lifes "nice" . It came from the part without a fence .
Yeah right Hague tries to make Isreal`s life hard. They should have sponsoured a wall that cuts through Palestinian land.
Here is the wonderful plan for the wall(not all is built yet)
http://www.heise.de/tp/deutsch/special/ost/17847/17847_1.jpg
If the wal would have been built in Isreal`s borders the terms of the discussion in the International Court of Justice would had totally defierent paramters. But the fact thait it cuts through Palestinian land makes it illegal hence the order to dismantle it.
) It was made after some ease ups on restrictions made by IDF troops on checkpoints , to make life easier for Palestinians . So your "violence VS violence " bull**** goes right back at your ass
If you can talk polite and engage in a serious debate I will join you.If all you can spout is flame comments such as "bull**** goes right at your ass" don`t bother.

For you it's nice and interesting debate , time spend on internet ? For me it can be people I know . Get it now ? Don't bull**** this thread .

People wake up and smell the blood , guts , pain suffering that is thus war.
We need to be able to as logical human being's see that , war has been around since the dawn of man and will continue untill the fall of humanity.
We are flawed men (sinners) , this still does not justify the senseless and
barbaric killings of other human beings , but thus the vicious cycle counties and willl go on.But lets call a spade a spade and call the killing of any innocent human beings on either side wrong (but that is war).
We need to realize "war is hell" but apart of are society , and learn from these acts of horiable violence , that this is the inevitable. People in the US might be in the same boat as the israels , someday terror attacks will be to the same magnitude as in israel , reason being we are a democracy and we promote freadom and the pursiut of F***ing happines.
I know i find myself being anti semtic sometimes , but these people are quite similar to americans lets not forget this.Terrosim is the wave of the future lets accept this and show the rest of the world that we will be the the bright light in these dark days ahead of us , and support other great nations who are struggling to get a foothole in the world.
God Bless.

Yea, let's support terrorists, let's give them Nuclear weapons, they are freedom fighters!!!
You are a stupid ass (and that's not sarcasm).
P.S. Terror is considered to be the second worse crime a nation can commit (crime against humanity).

Sami Masrawa:"Now I'm for the fence".
Sami Masrawa, 29, from Jaffa, that was lightly hurt from fragments, was already saved once from a terror attack in bus 5 in Dizingof street in 1994. "This the 2nd terror attack that I've been miracly saved from. At that time I used to work in a caffe in Dizingof. I went out of the bus near the square, and the blast was few meters away from me. I guess that i'm doomed to see blood and dead people in terror attacks."
This morning he was on his way to work in the central station.
"I'm an Arab and Jaffa's citizens, and a left wing and until now I was against the fence. But the terrorists don't seperate between Arabs and Jews. After I've seen what was done in this terror attack, I hope to start a new fellowship for the building of the fence. I call to all the arabian knesset members to resign from the Knesset. We can't continue in this way."
Masrawa that was in bus number 42, behind bus 26, where the explosion was, told Ynet that even though he got hurt he tried to help the woundeds. "The horror sights that I've seen will stick for a long time. I've seen the woman that was badly hurt, I tried to revive it, but after a short time it was clear that she was dead. Then I went to a pregnant lady that lied on the road. She was probably in the 7th months of her pregnancy and she was in a total shock, she didn't know what is happening. Her leg was covered with blood."

It's not up in that area.
and anyone can walk/drive to the south of the west bank and penetrate through the not completed part.
Israel isn't huge, it takes 60 minuets to go from the north of the west bank to the south and then up to Tel Aviv it takes another 40-60 minuets.

RIP for the victims of the bombing. I hope the wounded heal fast.
Arafat needs to be killed. I'm not saying this because of this one incident but because of the hundreds that have been carried out or attempted to be carried out. Arafat shouldn't be exiled since that only makes him more of a martyr for the terrorists because then people want to rescue him. He needs to be killed. He isn't helping try to acheive peace and needs to be gotten rid of.
Does anyone know why the Palestinian terrorists targetted this bus stop with a bombing rather than a suicide bombing?

If the fence is already up in these areas how did they manage to penetrate it?
The fence doesn't cover all of Israel, so there are small areas a terrorist might be able to get through but it is important to note that because of the wall dozens of people have been saved including Israeli-Arabs.
If the fence is already up in these areas how did they manage to penetrate it?
It's not that hard to reach Tel-Aviv from the areas which haven't been fenced.
BTW I wouldn't exclude the assertion that Arab Israelis who collaborated with terrorist organizations were those who carried out the attack...

I know the fence is not up in some areas, and I know that Israel is small. But aren't these "holes" monitered by the IDF?
There is a possibility that the attacker came through israel, traveled maybe?

No, they are not monitored. Israel mostly base its defense in those areas on its great Intelligence agencies.
And as someone here said, it might be an Israeli arab that entered the west bank and terrorists have gave him the explosives and told him to put it in a big bus station in Tel Aviv.
