Cool pics! Seen that first one before, many times. My uncle was in the Air Force and worked at Lockheed's Skunk Works and Groom Lake (Area 51) for the F-117 "Black" Program. Very cool stuff.

Anyone have any idea what the hell is on the back of that SR-71? Looks like a mount for a D-21 drone, but other than that, I have no idea.

Rare pic of the McDonnel Douglas F-15 Short Takeoff/Landing Maneuver Technology Demonstrator (STO/LMTD). I like the huge compass in the desert.

Good pic of Hellfire missiles loaded onto an Apache.

Unquestionably one of the most evil looking planes of all time:

The first pic is definitly nice. At the airshow this year they are going to have the F117 and the B2...but just static displays

Last year I saw a B-2 fly over the airfield at an airshow I was at. It was pretty wicked.

I saw the F117 at fleet week in SF a few years ago, it made a low pass and flipped onto its side so you could barely see it, then hit the afterburners.... which was the only thing visible. Wonderful machine :-)

Yeah...I don't know what that thing on the back of the SR-71 is either.

F-117's dont have afterburners, it would increase their temperature which would make them stand out on IR detection systems, and it would make them supersonic, which would mean they would be accompanied by a sonic boom, making the whole stealth deal useless.

About the second picture...Are they really pushing the F-18!!!!???????

And seeing how many of them have on BDU...is it a normality for Navy crewmen to wear BDU?

OK, whatever it did, it accelerated, and some jet stream was visible. I also saw it from another angle during the World Series game in Anaheim, but it came in flat over the stadium, and pulled hard left, and high into the sky, out of view. They are damn hard to see, even from low altitude. By the time you hear the roar, it is almost out of your field of view.

hmm....my uncle is a firefighter at Edwards AFB out here in California. They have a few B-2s there for testing, not bombing. He calls me up so often and we go out to the hour-away town of Lancaster/ Palmdale to visit him and "coincidentally" theres usually B-2s flying around the California desert. Pretty cool. :)

Also....the Berkut is one mean looking SOB. Too bad that modern US fighters would destroy it BVR making its superior dogfighting capabilites moot.

ALSO....the F/A-18 series of planes are the best there are. The E/F versions are just as good as the JSF prototypes less the stealth factor. :)

You will find all battle capable B-2 at some point or another in Kansas. Most missions during Kosovo and Afghanistan were flown from there. There were however, British owned islands that they were stationed at during the war with Iraq.

Back in the 80's, NASA did research on forward sweep designs, most notably on the X-29:

that reminds me of some older research projects into wing sweeps.....

That is a camera on the back of the Ju-287V1 to record the airflow test and a booster for rocket assisted takeoff ...

The story of the A12/M21 and use of the D-21 Drones over China is quite interesting:

Yes they are pushing the jet back. Ever see a aircraft carrier full on deck. They dont fly into positions like that. ;)

The Air & Sea Show (http://www.aero-pix.com/fl/flpage.htm) in Ft. Lauderdale is probably one of the best shows around. Watching two B1B's buzz the beach in full afterburner is an awesome thing to see....

I'm wondering if that was the true intension of the U.S. warmongers? Saddam and Co. couldnt shoot back because they were all in awe the B-2 hence the phrase Shock and Awe.

Great Allah! check out that awesome infidel plane!!!

I was watching a B-2 turning over a large park in Toronto to do a run along the lakeshore for the airshow there.

I was up on my roof with my cat, and I thought "wow, that thing is quiet for it's size", then, as it was turning, the engines pointed right at me and WOW, pretty damn loud. My cat freaked out.
