Wow!! What a sensationalist title.
MUMBAI — A United States airplane carrying 205 Marines left India on Monday after being grounded for more than 33 hours over an airspace clearance dispute, officials said.
Indian military officials ordered the Bangkok-bound aircraft to land at Mumbai airport on Sunday, saying it did not have the permission required to fly through Indian airspace.
"We were supposed to give the clearance for the plane to leave India which we did on Sunday itself," Indian air force spokesman T.K. Singha told AFP.
A Mumbai airport spokesman told the Press Trust of India the aircraft finally left for its original destination Monday afternoon.
"The aircraft took off for Utapao in Bangkok from Mumbai International Airport at 17:34 pm (1204 GMT)," the official said.
A US embassy official speaking on the sidelines of an India-US joint air exercise in the northern town of Agra described the incident as a "misunderstanding with call signs."
"We thank India for resolving the issue quickly," the news agency quoted Colonel Steward Kowal, the embassy official, as saying.
