They do fit on the AUG waffles, we tried them on. How do they sit in ammo pouches with the Magpuls on is a diffrent story.

I was under the impression that all 5.56 mags are the same and can be used on any NATO weapon of that calibre. C-7, M-16, SA-80, Steyr Aug ect.

Nope. Off the top of my head, both the AUG and older versions of the FAMAS aren't STANAG magazine compatible.

You were under wrong impression - You can have very diffrent 5,56 magazines with very diffrent dimensions - you can have AK style 5,56 Beryl magazines, waffle type - 5,56 AUG magazines, connectable G36 and SIG 550 series 5,56 magazines which are plastic and boxy. There are plastic Thermolds, PMags etc, and there are of course a general line of STANAG magazines have the similiar external dimensions but the often differ in build.
Look there Ngati:

Yeah, read through the PDF's on their site but I was after firsthand experience or pics as you provided to be sure in my own mind.
Cheers mate.

FAMAS mags also suck. So many issues with those things.

Ngati, depends what pouches you're going to use mate. The guys in my section with SORD Shingles used MAGPULs on their mags for the whole 9 months, the only drama I remember them having was with wearing larger cold weather gloves but you can still get the mag out quick, just can't hook your finger in the loop. But yeah, that depends on the gloves you wear, if any at all.

i run magpulls on my mags in SORD DA 30rd's and they worked well, no problems. when the ban on non issue EO pouch's came in i still kept them on and they fit ok with issue pouch's. bloody good piece of kit.

I never understood why AUGs just didn't use STANAG mags in the first place. Why do they gotta be different, friggin Aussies and Germans. Never wanna follow the crowd.

friggin Aussies and Germans.
And Austrians, Kiwis, Irish, Malaysians, and about 20 other countries. None of who will probably ever impact on you. Why are you so excited about it?

Or you can just tie in a piece of hootchie cord between the release buttons on the magazine bottoms, much cheaper.

I myself never used anything like the Magpuls, or even using the 550 cord trick on it. But after reading that .pdf, it did bring up a good point that doing that, could put undue wear and tear and possible even eventually breaking it after multiple draws, and/or high stress draws of the magazine. Never know right?

no experience on them in the steyr ...but i bought about 20 of them for work and i swear by them mate ..bloody good bit of kit and it keeps the spring tension for an extended period ..havent had a mag related stoppage since ive been using them and they take a battering .. ..hope that helps...
EDIT...you talking about the actual pulls..not the mags ...sorry its early in the morning... have used them also ....i didnt like them on the stock M4 mags because they tended to lose their grip but i think it shouldnt be a problem with the steyr lip at the base of the mag

Was simply making a bad joke. Really though, wasn't the point of a lot of nations using STANAG mags to have mag compatibility between allied nations. So why do some prefer to go a different route?

Yeah but they look flash and take no effort to mount.
Which means plenty of blokes will buy them off me...

Some of the boys use them, I think its more they're not readily availible here and some RAR guys I did a course in Aus rated them too, I'm just a tight arse desk driver now but i definatley see a market for them

Not to derail, but could you tell us about those issues? You've got me curious! On topic: Yes, magpuls do work with AUG magazines, and I've seen it done before. It's a bit of a tighter fit though.
